Research Engineer High-Performance Computing (f/m/d)

Job Description:

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) advances the way people live and work. We bring together curious minds to create breakthrough technology solutions, helping our customers make their mark on the world.

At HPE Labs, we are all about innovation and finding ways to turn advanced technologies into next generation products and solutions; We invent new technologies, changing markets, and deliver the science and technology that gives HPE leadership in the digital world. Our goal is to remain at the cutting edge for our clients, sharing our expertise and enabling tomorrow’s technologies such as photonics, memristor, memory-centric computing, and next generation computers – so our customers can grow with us.

Would you like to perform world-class research while also shaping products of the future? Are you interested in working with the most esteemed research partners across Europe?

Are you interested in questions like:

·  How can we best enable high performance research software on pre-Exascale and Exascale supercomputers?
·  How do we provide new environments/abstractions to support application developers to build, deploy, and run applications taking advantage of leading-edge hardware at scale?
·  How can HPC, AI, and Big Data research software approaches be combined?
·  How do we manage modern data-intensive workloads in high performance environments?

The HPE HPC & AI EMEA Research Lab is characterized by a unique blend of industrial research and tech development using Agile/Lean methodologies. Our Research Engineers are highly technical, team-thinking, communicative software/research engineers from a variety of backgrounds.

We are:

·  A dedicated research team integrated inside one of the most important HPC global companies.
·  A group with varied expertise in many aspects of HPC and related disciplines
·  A unique blend of the best of both worlds – quality research and development of real software
·  Engaged in a variety of HPC-centric research projects, mainly from the European Commission’s H2020-FETHPC and ICT programmes.

We are looking for someone with the flexibility to work on both short- and longer-term research projects, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve project outcomes. You should be enthusiastic to learn new technologies and able to communicate what you have learned to others.

You should have:

·  Development experience in compiled languages such as C, C++ or Fortran and experience with interpreted environments such as Python.
·  At least a B.Sc. equivalent in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical discipline
·  Parallel programming experience, with programming models such as OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, OpenACC, HIP, PGAS languages, etc.

Your personal skills include:

·  Strong team spirit but capable of independence
·  Ability to represent oneself and the team both inside and outside the company
·  A knack for finding fun in the complex and difficult

You see great value in:

·  Team-based technical developments
·  Communicating with a diverse set of people – the team, our partners, the rest of the company, customers, 3rd party developers
·  Combining technical knowledge with bigger-picture thinking

You might also have:

·  M.Sc. / Ph.D. in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical discipline
·  Experience in one or more domain specific software ecosystems (e.g. weather and climate, computational fluid dynamics, AI, data science...)
·  Experience working on EU projects such as H2020
·  Experience working on HPC applications and/or Cloud applications
·  Experience working with research consortia

You will initially focus on one of our EU projects, EPIGRAM-HS (https://epigram-hs.eu/), centered on enabling extreme scale applications on heterogeneous hardware. Specifically, supporting memory management in heterogeneous high-performance programming environments that may contain multiple NUMA domains per node, multiple GPUs per node, on or off-node flash storage, and more. Approaches will be considered in C, C++, and Fortran, along with options such as supporting libraries, directives and programming language extensions, compiler supported program analysis. This project is closely linked to the MAESTRO ( https://maestro-data.eu/ ) project, in which a middleware for memory and data-aware workflows is being developed, with applications from electronic structure calculations to operational numerical weather prediction.

You will also have the chance to spend time working with our team in other projects on topics suited to your interests and skillset, which may include subjects like application coupling, mathematical optimisation, containers, high performance AI solutions, compilers, or application optimisation.

What we can offer you:

Extensive benefits, a competitive salary and participation in the shared values and purpose that make Hewlett Packard Enterprise one of the world´s most attractive employers! At HPE, our goal is to provide equal opportunities, flexible work-life balance, and constantly evolving career growth.
