Hewlett Packard Labs is the corporate research lab for Hewlett Packard
Enterprise. At Hewlett Packard Labs we conduct high-impact research into
the challenges and opportunities facing our customers and society in the
next decade. Our research in Hewlett Packard Labs in Bristol is focused
on security technologies. We are expanding our team working on a major
European research project - called SHIELD - that proposes an innovative
architecture to virtualise network security functions and couple it with
big-data analytic for enabling new threats and attacks detection
algorithms. We are seeking an innovative postdoc or research engineer to
join the team to be responsible for design and development of the
project prototype, as well as research new security mechanisms. This
position, on a 18 months fixed term contract, is an opportunity to gain
experience of advanced development and research in an industrial
research lab. Strong candidates will be innovative, knowledgeable and
highly productive postdoc or research engineers with a track record of
successful systems development projects and proven skills in developing
low-level system software. With between two and five years software
development experience - including PhD studentship, successful
candidates will be excellent team players with very good interpersonal
skills. They will be expected to assist in lab research, taking direct
ownership for developing prototype features and seeing them through from
design to deployment, working closely with other members of the team in
the UK and across Europe.
Responsibilities
Perform research into trusted computing, virtual networks and
systems security
Software design and development through the complete software
lifecycle
Leading/owning the design, development, documentation and delivery
of prototypes
Qualifications
To be eligible for the position, applicants are expected to hold a
PhD in Computer Science or have corresponding qualifications in computer
security, with a proven track record of software development.
Outstanding research engineer with a Master degree will also be considered.
Knowledge and Skills
Software development experience
Good theoretical and strong practical knowledge of computer
science, security and software engineering fundamentals
Strong software design and implementation skills, the ability to
think widely about problems and to consider all aspects and consequences
of proposed solutions
Excellent written and oral communication skills, good presentation
skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to integrate well
into a positive, energetic development team
Knowledge of any of the following is highly desirable:
