Job description

HP Labs, Palo Alto is currently seeking
a highly qualified, self-motivated researcher for a summer intern position to
work in the Microfluidics/SERS Lab. The duration of internship is 10-12
weeks.

Job description

The research project is focused on the
research and development of novel SERS-based sensing concepts under development
at HP labs. The project will consist of experimental chemical and biological
bench work. The work will leverage the researcher's knowledge of the properties
of organic compounds to predict their interaction with sensor surfaces. The
researcher will then optimize these interactions to create a novel and powerful
bio-chemical assay.

Desired profile

· Must be a student in chemistry, chemical engineering, bio-chemistry, biology, bio-engineering, material science, bio-physics, or equivalent.
· Strong knowledge of organic and surface chemistry and common spectroscopic techniques (e.g., FTIR, Raman); have demonstrated strong chemical and biological laboratory skills; and have experience with cell culture, including that of bacterial cells.
· Troubleshooting skills and the ability to generate creative solutions to research problems.

Desired qualifications

· 3+ yr of chemical, bio-chemical, or molecular biology laboratory experience
· 3+ yr experience in bacterial and mammalian cell culture, including design of culture media to affect cellular responses.
· 3+ yr experience in surface chemistry and surface functionalization, especially experience in design of vapor phase surface functionalization.
