Essential Responsibilities

Provide mechanical systems engineering leadership for Magnetic Resonance (MR) components and subsystems in the Patient Handling domain. Identify and execute a strategic technology roadmap for Patient Handling (patient tables, bridges, docks, electronics) to ensure GE Healthcare MR maintains market leadership. Support the development of new technologies and hardware platforms for other subsystems (non-Patient Handling) within Magnetic Resonance systems and Surface Coils. Develop system requirements, subsystem requirements and verification plans and procedures. Address any mechanical design issues and needs from new product introduction (NPI) programs, manufacturing, service, suppliers or customers inputs. Responsible for installed base issues. Drive closure on site issues and investigations. Lead development for advance technology projects. Lead design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models and essential component and assembly details to explore multiple design options. Capture mechanical design schematics using an MCAD system. Participate in technical design reviews, risk assessments, FMEA, FEA, CFD, reliability testing, etc. Enable fast prototyping of new technologies by owning design, modeling and implementation. Develop innovative designs to meet all requirements for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability in new products and any potential improvement for existing products. Develop and maintain mechanical subsystem quality, engineering and cost project funnels. Demonstrate hands on experience for prototyping, drawings and final design outputs. Provide guidance and requirements to new product development teams in order to improve quality of new releases. Develop and maintain siting requirements, service procedures and customer and field interactions. Ensure reliability, performance and delivery through supplier relationships. Lead discussions with new suppliers to evaluate capabilities for production. Serve as a project leader of team activities within a project, from time-plan, resource needs, status reports, cost monitoring, resource usage, technology requirements and solutions. Work with partners in Integrated Supply Chain to determine best production processes and supplier base. Mentoring of junior mechanical engineers within the Magnetic Resonance team.
Qualifications/Requirements

Master’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, and 5 years of experience in a related occupation required. The position also requires: 5 years of experience in mechanical design in injected molded plastics, thermoforming, lower power electronic packaging, sheet metal, mechanisms, cables & harnesses, labeling and packaging; 5 years of experience in patient handling subsystems (drive systems, safety interlocks, control systems, injection and pressure formed parts); 5 years of experience in Windchill, PRO-E (MCAD design systems); 5 years of experience in medical device design and regulations; 5 years of experience with regulatory and safety requirements for medical devices; 5 years of experience in mechanical modeling and thermal and mechanical simulation; 5 years of experience in technical project leadership; 5 years of experience with design for reliability, manufacturing and service; and 5 years of experience making design trade-offs between functionality, performance, quality and cost.
