The opportunity
EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives (BTI) team, specializes in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) and Cost Segregation Assignments. We are a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science & technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in many different industries, helping them maximize their tax credits and achieve their business objectives. We’re looking for qualified accountants or tax professionals to join our team in Toronto.
We are looking for a candidate with outstanding verbal and written communication skills with a teaming mentality to join our practice. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who has an Accounting degree and work experience and wants to continue their career working with new technologies, innovative companies and more exposure to the business and financial side of an organization. Your key responsibilities
As a BTI Financial Manager you will be part of a team working with a variety of clients at the forefront of technology, from entrepreneurs to public corporations, to evaluate and prepare their SR&ED claims and find other incentives and cash tax savings to help their business. This involves meeting with CTOs, CFOs, engineers, scientists and tax professionals to assess the client's eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and work with EY’s technical team to identify and prepare SR&ED claims, cost segregation engagements and incentives applications. You will be responsible for managing relationships to provide value to clients and developing skills in project management, risk assessment and business development. If you want to be exposed to exciting R&D initiatives in a myriad of different industries, this role is for you.
· Participate in scoping sessions to determine if there are eligible SR&ED projects or expenditures
· Preparation of qualifying expenditure summaries
· Assist with the preparation of the tax submission
· Work with systems and tools related to SR&ED and tax incentives
· Review expenditures on major capital projects
· Assist and lead reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
· Manage client expectations and strict deadlines.
· Work as part of a cross-functional national team.
To qualify for the role you must have
· Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting or related discipline.
· Professional accounting or legal designation
· Assurance experience considered an asset
· Experience with the SR&ED program would be considered a strong asset
· Strong skills in Excel, sharepoint and familiarity with tax preparation software
· Ideally, at least two years experience in a similar position
· Good interviewing skills, with the ability to probe for information
· Creative thinker - ability to innovate solutions to client problems on the spot.
· Excellent communication skills (outgoing personality, written, verbal, and listening).
