The Proofreader proofreads documents of a technical and statistical nature in order to reconcile revisions, check spelling, punctuation, and formatting of EY financial statements.
Responsibilities:
· Reads original document and/or proofs against copy and manuscript to detect and mark for correction, typographical, grammatical, or mathematical errors using standard proofreading editing marks.
· Reviews documents for layout of text and graphics, and checks for compositional errors.
· May make electronic corrections and rearrange text under established formats and styles.
· Effectively use Word and Excel on a project-to-project need. Able to track changes and use comparison/merge functionality in Word.
· Supports quality assurance and quality controls within CSG. Communicates and consults with work originators regarding various levels of quality assurance and correct usage of grammar and sentence structure.
· Works as a team player in planning, scheduling, and production, as well as informing others of availability.
· Effectively assists in training of new Proofreaders.
· May cross-train in additional CSG disciplines to provide flexibility during peak times.
· Pursues and shares best practices within the department and among ESS/CSG staff.
To qualify, candidates must have:
· Good understanding of English
· Attention to detail and rigorous approach
· Ability to perform under pressure, within tight deadlines
· Team spirit and good people skills
· High School diploma
· Additional education in English / Grammar, Proofreading
· 2 years prior proofing experience required
· Experience in translation/communications service or in accounting or legal firm an asset
