RESPONSIBILITIES: | Corporate Development is the strategy, venture investment and M&A group within Cisco Systems. Its charter is to define corporate strategy 1-3 years out and accelerate company growth through investments, partnerships and acquisitions. The group has unparalleled experience and visibility across the high tech industry through highly impactful investments and acquisitions across the globe. We are seeking an experienced IT professional to join the Corporate Development team to help land China related equity investments to support our business and strategy in China and globally. These currently include LP investments with venture capitalists, direct investments usually co-investing with financial VC's, joint ventures and M&A. While financial returns are important consideration, the key driving factor in our investment decisions will center around strategic relevance to Cisco. The Business Development Manager will own specific investment themes and projects, and be responsible for end to end management of the investment process, including sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and execution - as well as post-investment review. In doing so, he/she will work closely with executives in the Greater China theatre and various businesses of Cisco, with heavy senior exposure, as well as other Corporate Development professionals, communication and integration teams, and agencies (including legal and financial advisors). The candidate will need to manage relationships with partner level executives with venture capital firms and senior executives with strategic partners in the IT space, as well as engage directly with CXO's of target companies and government officials. Responsibilities also include management of the investment portfolio toward successful financial exit and to ensure achievement of strategic goals; the Business Development Manager may hold observer seats on the boards of investee companies of the deals he/she leads. The role encompasses the following specific activities: ·Collaborating with field or business unit colleagues to develop/articulate segment or market strategies, and define the role of investments and acquisitions vs. internal development or partnering in achieving these strategies ·Sourcing investment and acquisition opportunities which align to the agreed theses/strategies; ·Analysis of investment and acquisition opportunities against investment criteria, and evaluation of key drivers and commercial assumptions; ·Financial modeling of structures and returns from investment and acquisition opportunities; ·Preparation and presentation of investment and acquisition cases for review by relevant corporate review boards; ·Carrying out commercial diligence on investment and acquisition opportunities; ·Structuring and negotiating transactions; ·Collecting and reviewing financial and other information from portfolio companies in order to monitor progress, and preparing quarterly reports; ·Identifying potential problems in the portfolio and driving remedial actions ·Assisting in structuring exits. Professionals with Cisco's Corporate Development group have gone on to positions in venture capital, pre-IPO IT firms (including portfolio companies), as well as senior roles within Cisco business lines. |
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT | The position requires a wide variety of skill sets. Candidates are expected to lead discussions with top executives both inside and outside of the company and make decisions that have a high degree of strategic and financial impact. Cisco is looking for individuals that possess real deal experience and links to the venture, private equity, investment banking and startup community inGreater China. Critical requirements are (i) domain knowledge and industry expertise in information and communications technology, with knowledge of key vertical industries, (ii) strong communication and analytical skills, (iii) proven leadership capabilities and ability to operate successfully in an unstructured, team oriented environment. The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and characteristics: ·Minimum of 3 - 6 years experience in the high-tech industry ·Strong leadership and communication skills including strong language capability to work with senior executives in Mandarin and English environments ·Ability to think strategically and align investment opportunities with the Cisco business (familiarity with Cisco's business lines and especially market adjacencies, experience with a strategy consulting firm, particularly with a focus in the IT sector, will be considered favorably) ·Technical background/familiarity and experience with networking, enterprise software, cloud/SaaS offers and emerging technologies (Big Data, AI, IOT, etc.); the candidate will be expected to navigate through the businesses of target firms in the tech sector ·Strong analytical and financial skills to work on complex financial transactions with minimum supervision ·A deep network within the relevant tech and investment communities in China ·Transactional experience in venture capital, investment banking or corporate business development is ideal, though not a pre-requisite |
EDUCATION: | ·BSc in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science ·MBA with concentration in Finance or Business Strategy |
