What you do:
Lead the Ethics & Compliance function with a focus on helping the company achieve its strategic objectives. Specific expectations include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ensure Allianz Life maintains a robust ethics and compliance organization that effectively manages compliance requirements and expectations from a US legal and regulatory perspective and in compliance with policies and procedures of Allianz Life and applicable Allianz SE requirements.
- Build and maintain a viable, risk-based, data influenced, compliance operational structure that functionally manages the development of relevant policies, procedures, training, oversight, monitoring, and reporting. Key areas include, but are not limited to:
- Law Change Management - specifically, help ensure the company operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations with an emphasis on the timely identification and communication of changes and the monitoring of implemented changes.
- Financial Crimes (e.g., AML, Anti-Fraud, Anti-Corruption, Sanctions, Complaints, Special Investigations Unit)
- Customer Protection (e.g., Advertising Review)
- Regulatory Exam Management
- Operate an appropriate second line of defense compliance operation that effectively monitors implementation of key controls by the first line of defense and maintains meaningful communications with key representatives from the three lines of defense.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the relevant risks and commensurate controls in all areas of responsibility. In addition, have a strong working knowledge of relevant company controls being executed to help ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of relevant US legal and regulatory requirements and expectations and an awareness of relevant European regulations.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the company's strategic initiatives and maintain a strong working relationship with the business leaders across the company executing the strategy. Must also have the ability to successfully navigate complex organizational structures.
- Have, develop, and maintain strong relationships and connections with industry peers such that there is awareness of changing industry expectations/challenges, and the strategies and best practices top companies are implementing to address these challenges.
- Effectively communicate relevant risks and the state of controls to the Senior Leadership Group, Executive Leadership Group, and the Company’s boards of directors.
- As appropriate and necessary, communicate with state and federal regulators/agencies.

- Build and maintain an industry-leading ethics program that supports our value of Integrity.
- Ensure effective operation of core ethical programs (e.g., Code of Conduct, Whistleblower Hotline, Conflict of Interest / 1033 certifications, Investigations, Gifts and Entertainment policy).
- Strengthen the company's ethical culture through innovative communication, training, and programming to ensure that the Company continues to have a speak up culture that makes certain that all employees' voices are being heard.
- Effectively maintain strong connections with leading organizations and individuals focused on ethics and culture (e.g., Ethisphere, Radical Compliance). Lead efforts to obtain recognition of Allianz Life's strong ethical culture (e.g., Ethisphere's World's Most Ethical Company recognition).
Lead efforts to ensure that staff and leaders of the Ethics & Compliance function are effectively engaged, aligned, and motivated to help drive the company's ethical culture and its strategic initiatives and future success. Specific expectations include but are not limited to the following:
- Creating and communicating a vision for the Ethics & Compliance department that inspires and motivates innovation and engagement.
- Effectively manage the department budget with an understanding of the Company’s needs, emerging risks, and strategic needs (including Group initiatives), appropriate trade-offs, and appropriate strategic investments.
- Support the meaningful development of staff and leaders with a clear eye on emerging resource capability needs.
- Foster a culture where employees feel comfortable raising their voices to be heard and where challenging ideas have an accepting forum for discussion.
- Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI).
What you bring:
- Over 10 years of compliance-related leadership experience in the financial services industry, preferably in the life insurance and securities sectors.
- Four-year degree with advanced degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- Adept at navigating highly matrixed local and global organizations.
- Proven experience leading large teams across multiple levels of leadership and a wide range of programs and developing talent.
- Extensive experience in leading, developing, and executing projects (and related budgets).
- Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage across all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive amidst change, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
- Strong industry knowledge with a track record of innovative thinking.
- Proven experience in fostering partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Strategic and geometric thinker with experience creating a compelling vision.
