Job Description
A go getter with solid legal, corporate secretarial and data privacy experience to be responsible and accountable for delivery of Legal, Corporate Affairs (Corporate Secretarial) and Data Privacy requirements of the entity in Malaysia. The position would be an individual contributor as on date with possibilities of taking care of a team as the entity matures and when the position fits. This role will be located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Key Responsibilities
This role is responsible for Legal, including the corporate affairs (as Corporate Secretary) together called “the function” to meet the requirements of Allianz Services Malaysia. Point of contact for the Local Management and functional owners from the Region and Centre for the function.
- Responsible and accountable for compliance and delivery of all functional requirements, data and the accurateness and correctness of the same.
- Responsible to Management for strategic alignment of functional activities to be in line with Global Legal, ambitions and other strategic ambitions of the entity.
- Responsible for awareness campaigns within the entity; Managing all supervisory requirements, filings to regulators as a Corporate Secretary to ensure compliance to regulations while objectives of the function is validated for accurateness and correctness.
- Provide legal & data privacy advice and review relevant Supplier/ Customer Contract incl MSAs.
- Prepare the roll out of Allianz Data Privacy Trainings, Data Privacy awareness campaigns and initiate and perform Privacy assessments (Data Register & Privacy Impact Assessments).
- Implement all necessary Data Privacy Control Frameworks and participates in reporting to company management. Represents the local entity in the relationship with local Data Privacy Supervisory Authority.
- Be the risk owner for the local function. Key Stake Holders:
- Local Management: for alignment of functional objectives with operational objective of the entity.
- Central and Regional function Hierarchy such as General Counsel and Regional Heads; for flagging risks within entity and for operational excellence with respect to the function.
- Other function holders especially the first line, second line and third line holders from the Entity for collaboration and synergies including for raising relevant risks if any.
- Similar stakeholders from other OE's within Malaysia; for creating synergies and to enhance collaboration.
- Law firms and other consultants: to collaborate and work on projects for expert advice and create tactical ambitions for the function.
- Regulators, as and when required to support the organization in terms of compliance to regulations Auditors and investigators as and when required to support the organization in terms of its requirements.
Qualifications and skills
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- University degree in Law from a top tier accredited institution.
- Minimum 15 years in legal (Financial, IT, Insurance, Shared services business), experience as a Company Secretary and several years in e.g. data privacy, risk management, internal control and compliance.
- Strong knowledge in IT laws, Data Privacy rules and regulations is added advantage.
- High ethics and integrity should be part of the operational culture.
- Excellence in English skill, writing and speaking.
- Deep understanding of local legal system of MY, including but not limited to civil law, contract law, company law, international trade, tax and commercial law, labor law.
- Data Privacy Certifications (IAPP) would be a plus.
- Able to work flexible hours and to travel when needed.
- Fluency in English with high level legal drafting skills.
