If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

What you will do

Job Summary:

As a Welding and Joining Engineer for Body-in-White, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and quality of our vehicles. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee welding and joining processes in the production of vehicle bodies, leading initiatives to optimize weld quality, reduce production costs, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
1.    Process Development: Develop and optimize welding processes and parameters for multiple welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and Resistance Welding. Set up automated welding solutions to drive process reliability and repeatability.
2.    Operations Support: Support production operations by designing, training, and implementing Welding Process Specifications (WPS) and providing direction to engineers and welders on welding process optimization.
3.    Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to ensure weld integrity, dimensional accuracy, and adherence to industry standards and specifications. Establish weld qualification training and testing. Utilize appropriate mechanical and non-destructive testing to ensure quality standards are being maintained.
4.    Material Selection: Work closely with materials engineers to select appropriate materials and coatings for welding processes, considering factors like material compatibility, corrosion resistance, and structural performance.
5.    Welding Equipment: Evaluate, select, and maintain welding equipment, robotics, and controls to improve efficiency and ensure reliable production.
6.    Cost Reduction: Establish optimum weld machine settings to support cycle time reduction through process balancing, down-stream rework reduction, and improved weld machine consumable utilization.
7.    Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to identify and implement process enhancements, such as automation, lean manufacturing techniques, and waste reduction. Identify new welding processes that may be employed to improve processes.
8.    Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation, including weld schedules, procedures, and specifications, and provide training to production personnel.
9.    Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, environmental requirements, and industry standards in all welding and joining processes.
10.    Supplier Collaboration: Collaborate with suppliers to assess and improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of welding materials, equipment, and components.
11.    Project Management: Support Project leaders in BIW welding projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, timelines, and resource allocation.
