Background of Thesis work
Purchasing and supply chain functions around the world are facing daunting challenges in getting products and services to their operations and customers in an efficient and cost-efficient way. These challenges are becoming more and more difficult by uncertain external factors, like macroeconomics, extreme weather, geopolitical crisis and other supply chain disruptions.
In the global setting, in which multinational companies operate, the amount of data to take in and analyze to manage effectively supply and operations, is increasing fast.
In this context, the rapidly growing area of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more and more interesting to explore also for Purchasing and Supply Chain.

Description of Thesis work and Deliverables
As a Master’s student, you will dive into the growing field of AI within Purchasing and supply chain management. Your research will focus on exploring how AI technologies can be applied to optimize process, reduce risks and cost and create more sustainable and efficient supply chains. You will analyze the potential advantages as well as the risks and challenges associated with the integration of AI, such as ethical concerns, data privacy and system requirements.
We see that your work will address areas like:

Evaluation on the latest trend in AI for purchasing and Supply chain

Identification and analysis of AI applications and their impact on cost, efficiency, risk management and decision making
·
Investigation on risks associated with AI adaptation, such as biases and cyber threats
You will work closely with stakeholders in Purchasing and Supply Chain functions and have access to data in our systems.
We expect that at the end of your work, you will provide recommendations for AI implementation strategies that maximize opportunities and mitigate risks.
Suitable background
You are master students in Supply Chain management, Business administration, Economics, Data Science, or similar.
Strong interest in AI, business organization and supply chain management. You have an analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
In the selection process for this thesis, we will look for candidates with good fit to Volvo AB values and willingness to learn, a growth mindset.
