Background
Volvo GTO in Skövde produces components and heavy-duty diesel engines for several applications (Trucks, construction equipment, industrial engines, marine engines, etc.). The main processes in Skövde are Foundry, Machining, and Assembly.
We are now facing a significant transformation journey in terms of new products and the digitalization of our operations. We hope you want to be part of and contribute to that journey.
Assignment
Today's tools at station G1000 need to be improved in terms of ergonomics, usability, quality, and strength. The assignment includes design, calculating and manufacturing documents (drawings) for the new tools. The students are expected to run and plan the project independently, and in good cooperation with the assembly staff.
Aspects to consider are safety, the assemblers' wishes, ergonomics, and manufacturing costs. Different part of the project could be strength calculations (FEM), risk analyzes and requirements specification.

Purpose and goals
Improvements to the tools can contribute to an improved assembling quality and working environment, but also financial savings. The goal is well-founded manufacturing documents that best meet the requirements.
