Master Thesis- Automatic CAD in loop
Göteborg, SWEDEN IT development
Job description
Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport and infrastructure solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.
Automatic CAD in loop - parametric-controlled geometric model for optimal battery pack design
Background:
Volvo Truck Technology is the core of development to create products and solutions to help increase safety and reduce the environmental footprint. In fact, there is a remarkable opportunity to improve the logistics efficiency in many transportation segments. TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) is one of the most important KPI (Key Performance Indicators) to indicate customer value and satisfaction.
At the same time, the development progress of battery design is advancing rapidly. There are many different cell types, different series and parallel configurations of battery cells, various connection types of busbars and installation strategies in vehicles etc.
How do we keep up with the ever-changing technology while also achieving the goal of providing the most optimized products?
Object of this Thesis:
We have utilized different models to calculate the TCO, however the geometrical data has not been involved much in these calculations. So, we would like to fill this gap and make the geometrical design be part of the TCO loop.
The scope of this thesis work:
· define information flow from the concept study to industrialization phase
· define criteria will be used for evaluation of this concept generation tool.
· create a parametric CAD template model
· check the performance of CAD in a loop.
The delivery of this project will allow us to make rapid feasibility check in the earlier product development phase. The primary form of delivery will be a parametric-controlled geometric model of the battery system. The geometric model will be able to
· create rapid concept evaluation with essential sub-systems.
· provide the data for geometrical feasibility check
· provide the data for the TCO model calculation, for example weight, cost, EL capacity, etc.
This model will then be integrated with upstream data models to perform geometry-related feasibility checks. The geometric model will focus on the truck wheelbase area and the major system is the high voltage system including charging system and battery system, there could be other system included depending on the variants.
Your profile:
· Knowledge in 3D modeling software is required
· Basic knowledge in Python or MATLAB or other object-oriented language
· Basic understanding of battery technology in vehicle applications
The thesis project is intended for 2 students.
