Thesis Background
At Volvo Powertrain Strategic Development, we shape technology strategies and inform business decisions for new powertrain solutions. We probe emerging powertrain tech, legal shifts, and future societal needs to prepare a powertrain roadmap. In addition, we also develop technology solutions, to support the transition from concept to production. In this context, the analysis of Logged Vehicle Data, both during the development phase and from in-production vehicles, stands as a cornerstone of our data-driven approach, offering insights into vehicle performance, user behavior, and potential areas for innovation.
What You Will Do
This thesis project focuses on leveraging real-world data to identify patterns and insights that will shape the future of truck products across different markets and customer segments. The primary objective is to analyse truck usage data from various clusters or regions to understand how trucks are utilized in real-world conditions. Using advanced analytics techniques, you will work on identifying key usage patterns and insights that will help inform product development and optimization.
You will have the opportunity to:
· Work with large-scale, real-world truck data to uncover meaningful insights.
· Analyze data across different clusters or regions to understand common usage patterns.
· Develop models using machine learning and statistical techniques to derive requirements for new markets or segments.
· Automate and standardize the analysis process for future scalability.
· Maintain thorough documentation of your work and findings to ensure a consistent and replicable workflow.
Who Are You?
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a passion for data science, analytics, and the automotive industry. You should have strong analytical skills and interest in working with large datasets. A background in data science, machine learning, or a related field. Knowledge of SQL, Python and pySpark is a merit since you likely will work with these.
Qualifications:
· Master student in Engineering Physics, Data Science, Mathematics, or related fields.
· Experience in data analytics, machine learning, or similar.
· Interest in the automotive or transportation industry is a plus.
