SML North America (NA) is a part of SML and has about 1,000 employees across the United States, Canada and Mexico. We operate the Central Distribution Center in Byhalia, MS as well as Regional Distribution Centers across the NA region. The Byhalia CDC is a 1 million square foot facility located approximately 25 miles southeast of Memphis, TN and employs 500+ employees.
We are looking for a great Human Resources Leader! We have an opening for a Human Resources Manager at the Byhalia CDC that will provide you with the opportunity to fulfill your professional objectives while you are part of the local leadership team that is driving change on all levels at the epicenter of the Volvo Group NA Service Market Supply Chain.
What You Will Do
The Human Resources Manager is head of the Byhalia, MS People & Culture (P&C) function. This is a leadership position, responsible for the human resources and health & safety teams within the Byhalia operation. As part of the site Management Team, you will work closely with the operational leadership to support the overall business objectives by providing expert human resources insight and strategy, while also providing guidance and expertise to members of your team and other employees within Byhalia. You will also be part of the regional SML P&C team, fully involved with the SML NA strategic P&C activities.

This position reports to the Head of People & Culture for SML NA. The position is located in Byhalia, MS.
Essential Functions
· Oversee and implement human resources initiatives and practices that foster growth, innovation, organizational effectiveness and employee relations that align with business strategies.
· Actively partner with business and operational leaders in order to fully understand their challenges and to develop an effective strategy to support their objectives.
· Provide direct leadership to a team of human resources and safety professionals and manage their career development. Always strive to secure an open and respectful dialogue, as well as a safe working and well-being environment.
· Advise and coach people leaders and P&C partners on workforce-related issues.
· Partner with teams to develop cross-functional and operation -wide initiatives to bolster retention and increase employee engagement.
· Lead the Compensation Review process and be an expert on Volvo compensation philosophy and practices.
· Lead the Talent Review and Succession Planning processes.
· Champion the Volvo culture as well as assure alignment of management actions with Volvo Group values and principles.
· Act as an inspiring leader; attract, motivate, develop and retain talent.
· Lead and act according to Volvo values, drive change and promote diversity.
Minimum Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field required. Advanced/graduate degree preferred.
· Minimum 7 years of Human Resources experience required, preferably working in a distribution/manufacturing environment.
· Minimum 3 years of experience managing a Human Resources Team or function, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
· Human Resources professional certification highly preferred.
· Experience working within the Human Resources function of a unionized workforce preferred.
· Demonstrated ability to drive change, set demanding targets and motivate teams and individuals to deliver outside of their comfort zones.
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team environment striving towards operational excellence guided by Volvo’s Values and the Code of Conduct.
Required Skills and Competencies
· As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Thorough knowledge of US employment and labor law, as well as HR professional practices
· Strong Generalist/Functional HR knowledge with experience collaborating across HR disciplines
· Solid business acumen (financial/operational business drivers)
· Strong problem-solving, negotiating and conflict resolution skills
· Ability to coach managers and employees in handling various employment and management-related issues
· Inspiring leadership and the ability to demonstrate a clear vision
· Ability to work collaboratively with operational leadership at all levels within the organization
· HRIS knowledge, preferably SAP and a cloud-based solution
· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office 365)
· Ability to work flexible hours and travel occasionally
