Job Description
You will be part of the technical team within Estuaire and work closely with our collaborators in charge of technology. This Research Scientist role will cover the following responsibilities:

Research and Development:
·
Lead internal research projects focusing on
· the non-CO2 effects of aviation, leveraging AI, Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP), and advanced aircraft performance modeling
· deriving insights from satellite imagery
· innovating in the field of aviation & data
·
Develop and deploy advanced algorithms to analyze & reduce emissions, contrails, and climate impacts using AI, optimization, and high-performance computing
·
Community Engagement and Collaboration:
· Launch and manage collaborative research projects with top universities, fostering academic partnerships that advance our research goals. Become the voice of the company in scientific and academic forums
· Together with our academic & industrial partners, build & deploy state of the art climate models for aviation based on scientific research
Preferred Experience
We are looking for the following qualifications but do not worry if not matching all of them :
Must-have:
·
PhD in Aerospace Engineering/Computer vision/Air Transportation/Climatology or equivalent
·
3-4 years of experience, as an engineer or scientist, in a company or laboratory
·
Strong data science skills, including efficient Python and SQL programming, with experience in Pandas, PyTorch, and TensorFlow and good coding practices.
·
Experience in computer vision: image segmentation, CNNs
·
Proven ability to work with large set of unstructured and structured tabular data (using python or spark)
·
Candidate should be curious, autonomous and a reliable team player with interest for aviation, sustainability & impact
·
Elementary understanding of the concept of ETL/ELT, Data Pipelines, & orchestration (e.g. Composer)
·
“This cannot work” is a sentence you use very carefully
Nice-to-have:
·
Experience with weather and flight trajectory data
·
Experience with optimization, uncertainty quantification
·
Experience in radiative transfer modeling, climatology, cloud physics, climate metrics
·
Hands-on experience with environmental sensors
·
Fluent in french is a plus but not necessary, we speak day to day in english
Recruitment Process

A first interview with a research scientist (30min) :
·
Get-to-know and discussion about experience, motivation and interests
After the first interview you receive a short technical challenge on an innovation project at Estuaire
·
A second interview with a member of the tech team (30min) :
· Presentation of technical challenge
· Discussion of case
·
A third interview with the cofounders (1h):
· Skill assessments and aligning expectations
· Opportunity to get answers to your remaining questions
