Job Description:

Sanofi Pasteur is seeking a creative and highly motivated scientist to join the Biologics Design and Generation Platform. The primary objectives for this individual will be to support new and ongoing vaccine projects by developing and performing advanced analytics.  It is imperative that this candidate be able to independently execute vaccine discovery and pre-development projects using chemistry, biochemistry and protein chemistry techniques including those used for preparation and characterization of protein and nucleic acid-based vaccine drug substance and drug product.  Expert level knowledge of separation-based analytical methods is required.  Familiarity with protein conjugation techniques is a plus.  The successful candidate will be required to generate, analyze and document data and to communicate their results internally. The candidate will be required to liaise effectively with therapeutic area teams to coordinate research activities in a multidisciplinary setting and as such must possess excellent presentation and writing skills.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·         The candidate will participate in development and implementation of state-of-the-art analytical methods and biophysical characterization to support nucleic acid & subunit-based vaccine programs

·         The work involves characterization of mRNA drug substance and drug product and additional large molecule biologics to support vaccine candidate progression to M2 stage gate (lead candidate identification & transfer from Research to Development)

·         The candidate may additionally participate in the design and optimization of novel protein and peptide conjugates as well as subsequent purification and analytics

·         The candidate is expected to have a solution-focused, team-oriented mindset and will interact closely with other investigators in research and development of novel vaccine candidates 

·         This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role in a highly collaborative research environment

·         Independent decision-making in protocol planning, study design and execution of experiments as well as interpreting and presenting data in an effective scientific manner

·         Work closely with colleagues within Sanofi Pasteur Global Research function, CMC, Development as well as with external CMOs and CROs to transfer analytical technologies across sites

·         Maintain detailed records and communicate progress and challenges, as necessary

·         Perform timely electronic laboratory notebook entries, review and submission for completed experiments

Qualifications & Skills: 

·         PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely-related discipline with 2-5 years postgraduate experience or MS in a similar field with 5-10 years experience 

·         Expert level knowledge and hands-on experience with separation based analytical methods (U/HPLC, LC-MS/MS, CGE, SDS-PAGE/WB, etc.) is required

·         Hands-on experience with particle analysis & thermal stability (SEC-MALS, DLS, DSF, DSC, etc.) is preferred

·         Experience with NMR characterization of lipids or other molecules is desirable

·         Familiarity with recombinant protein preparative techniques and bioconjugation methods is a plus

·         Ability to independently design, plan and execute scientific studies, including data analysis and operation and maintenance of relevant instruments and troubleshooting are required

·         Familiarity with scale up preparation and processing methods of conjugate vaccines is a plus

·         Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills are needed
