Job description
The Fabrication Assembler (FA) Level 1-3 is responsible for building custom, finished aircraft component parts based on unique, customer-specific design requirements. This is not typical assembly line work—the environment emphasizes low repetition & high customization, requiring adaptability, craftsmanship, & attention to detail. Successful candidates will thrive in a prototype & development environment, with work complexity ranging from entry-level (Level 1) to subject matter expert (Level 3).
•Fabrication and Assembly: Expertly fabricate & assemble interior panels & assemblies according to precise, program-specific processes. Manage multiple unique projects simultaneously, ensuring each meets stringent quality & customization standards
•Trim to Fit & Customization: Precisely trim, shape, & fit components to meet unique design requirements, demonstrating advanced customization skills for complex assemblies. Adapt fabrication techniques to accommodate varying materials & design
•Material Handling: Working with materials like adhesives, resins, honeycomb core, carpet, fiberglass, & aluminum, cutting, laying out, & processing them.
•Component Installation: Installing fittings like latches, hinges, & brackets, & preparing panels for adhesive application
•Finishing: Apply decorative finishes, perform complex bending & assembly using jigs & fixtures, & create high-quality vinyl laminate layups tailored to each project's unique specifications & product combinations
•Tool Operation: Utilizing various shop power tools, including routers, table saws, band saws, drill presses, pneumatic tools, rivet guns, specialty grinders, & other fabrication equipment
•Quality Control: Conducting visual checks, in-process rework, & maintaining records
•Troubleshooting: Identify fabrication & assembly challenges proactively, applying strong problem-solving skills to develop & implement effective solutions that maintain product integrity & schedule
•Following Instructions: Accurately interpret & adapt technical drawings, specifications, & verbal instructions to deliver highly customized, precision-fit components for each unique program
•Maintaining a Safe Environment: Adhering to safety protocols & maintaining a clean work area

Candidate skills & requirements
•Tool Proficiency: Experience using a wide range of hand & power tools, from basic hand tools to advanced shop equipment such as pneumatic tools, rivet guns, bucking bars, C-squeeze riveters, ratchet wrenches, nut runners, & specialty grinders
•Material Expertise: Deep knowledge of a broad range of materials used in aircraft interior fabrication, including adhesives, sealants, coatings, primers, chemical solvents, paints, composites, & specialty finishes like liquid nitrogen treatments. Understands the unique properties & handling requirements of each material to ensure quality fabrication
•Problem-Solving: Proven ability to diagnose & resolve fabrication issues, adapting techniques & processes to overcome unique challenges inherent in customized aircraft assembly
•Safety Awareness: Following safety protocols & maintaining a safe work environment
•Level 1:0-2 years of experience in a structural aerospace manufacturing environment preferred. Primarily works on first-stage articles with limited complexity. Collaborates closely with team leads and mentors for guidance & support. Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude & a willingness to develop problem-solving skills
•Level 2: 2 to 5 years of manufacturing experience, with proficiency in interpreting, authoring, & executing assembly & component test requirements. Handles articles of moderate complexity, working alongside leads or managers to resolve issues. Supports customer First Article Inspections (FAI) & independently addresses fabrication & quality concerns. Develops & understands manufacturing process steps to fabricate & assemble customized products. Applies strong problem-solving skills & mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot & improve processes. Begins coaching & developing Level 1 assemblers, sharing knowledge & best practices to support team growth.
•Level 3: 5+ years of experience in aerospace manufacturing, demonstrating advanced mechanical & electrical aptitude and knowledge. Works autonomously on highly complex articles, proactively identifying issues & implementing effective solutions. Collaborates with engineering and quality teams on prototype builds, offering design improvement recommendations for current & future products. Exhibits expert-level problem-solving abilities & technical insight. Provides leadership by coaching & mentoring lower-level assemblers, fostering skill development & promoting continuous improvement within the team.
