The R&D function supports the GBUs’ strategies (Pharma, Food and Industry) by deploying specific sciences and technologies, which contribute to supporting the current activity and the existing processes, innovating and thus creating better solutions, ingredients and formulations for our customers.

The R&D teams are working on:
o Developing new solutions in accordance with the strategies and priorities set by the GBU and the Projects Platforms in the context of the PMT (medium-term plan)
o Exploring new opportunities, based on macro-trends, overall trends, needs of the markets and the customers
o Supporting the existing activity with the different technological and scientific skills

Job Description

Roquette America R&D is seeking an Summer intern for 2020. 

The intern will collaborate with R&D personnel in a team environment in daily work activities in protein and carbohydrate research that will focus on solving goal-oriented challenges to advance Roquette science. The intern will also be integrated into the protein chemistry team working on goal-oriented projects as well as participate in routine activities. 

Under the supervision of senior scientists, this intern will conduct a research project in the area of protein chemistry.  This could include protein modification through processing, enzymatic or chemical addition. 

·  Determine impact of modification through functionality tests such as solubility, emulsification properties and gelling ability.  Finally, test modified protein in application model system(s). 
·  Candidate would be responsible for assisting in the designing of experimental plan and timeline, conducting experiments and recording procedures, observations and results in a scientific manner. 
·  Candidate will have the opportunity to experience application-driven protein chemistry in an industrial setting with cross-functional exposure to process engineering, analytical sciences, and food application testing.

The preferred intern will have education and experience in chemistry, biochemistry or food science with emphasis on protein and/or carbohydrate chemistry. 

Education Requirement:
Candidates must be a currently enrolled junior, or senior students pursuing Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, or Food Science; OR a currently enrolled graduate student pursuing a Masters or PhD in Chemistry or Food Science.

Required Experience and Skills:
Candidates must have completed at least two years of studies toward bachelor’s degree by June 2020.
Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) weeks from June - August 2020.

Preferred Experience and Skills:
Candidates should have significant interest in protein or carbohydrate chemistry
Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and laboratory experience and good lab practices (GLP’s).
Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
