The opportunity:

Provide highest level of technical expertise and leadership to colleagues regarding development and design of the aesthetics and layout of product artwork, component design, marketing and public relations materials, and packaging for scientific data and/or visual communications media to enhance product image. Utilizes current graphic design technology and computer software packages to produce advertisements, sales promotion and public relations material for visual communications media. May produce technical illustrations for manuals, brochures, labels, or other documents. Originates design, art and copy layouts. Reviews design drafts, proofs camera-ready art, and ensures proper pagination and color assignment. Determines style, size and arrangement of type and illustrations. Applies established corporate branding specifications to ensure work meets organization guidelines. May also have responsibility or input on reproduction and printing processes through in-house resources or outside vendors, providing instructions or directly assembles and prepares final layouts for printer. May design Web pages, including layout, user interface graphics, navigation, and graphics, working closely with Web Developers on coding to integrate text, graphics, sound, and/or video. May perform limited amount of Web programming and coding. Collaborates with project teams to plan, analyze, organize, and execute assigned projects. May meet with employees, consultants, and/or vendors, to assess effectiveness of product imagery and presentation needs. Manages relationships with external sources relating to design issues. Maintains proficiency on all software applications used by graphic design team and trains other graphic designers to ensure consistent practices among all team members.

Job Facts:

Requires the regular use of originality and ingenuity. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of field. Is generally assigned more complex and difficult assignments. Assignments are broad in nature. Typically works with greater discretion and latitude. May assist Consultants and lower level staff by providing advice and guidance.

Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions.

·  Conceives, designs, lays out, and coordinates editorial illustrations and creative artwork for publications such as magazines, brochures, handbooks, and posters, translating facts and features of subject material into graphic terms that best convey intended meaning. Develops interpretive themes that convey ideas and information. Creates graphic presentations that communicate mood, emphasis, insight, viewpoint, and similar visual impressions. May provide computer graphic services for web artwork.
·  Works closely with internal company contacts to understand requirements and create cost efficient graphic design through available mediums. Develops design solutions for successful strategic implementation of new products, product, market positioning and sales objectives.
·  Develops materials according to Roche standards for advertising and packaging and interpret these guidelines, applying them to all related materials. Maintain Roche corporate identity standards for all printed materials and keep apprised of desktop-publishing advancements. May have input into the development of Roche standards. Maintain consistency and quality among different types of documentation. Make certain documents conform to all global regulatory/legal guidelines. Generate product documentation for regulatory/legal filings and maintains adherence to guidelines.
·  Maintains internal graphic design documentation library, providing and/or coordinating special graphic design services as required, and oversight of special projects. Creates area work instructions as needed.
·  Participates on product launch teams as required. Provides guidance on graphic technology. Ensures design solutions are consistent with marketing objectives and corporate and branding. Applies design theory and concepts to developing practical communication solutions blending theoretical knowledge with defined goals and business objectives.

Oversees the selection, and management of vendors including authorization of cost associated with the project.

Maintains proficiency on all software applications used by graphic design team and trains other Graphic Designers to ensure consistent practices among all team members.

May lead special projects that require a higher level of graphic design expertise.

Who you are:

·  Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications or related field or equivalent work experience
·  Requires 6 years of design experience including layout, design and/or illustration.
·  Requires knowledge of technical details of the Roche product lines and document structure
·  Requires ability to work in a highly regulated and matrixed environment
·  Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
·  Ability to work independently, creatively, and efficiently
·  Requires excellent graphic design and visual communication skills
·  Ability to lead multiple projects with competing priorities
·  Must have strong organizational and project management skills
·  Requires knowledge of industry relevant multimedia software
