The Summer@Roche Intern Program has been developed to provide students with a fun yet rewarding summer through hands-on experience and numerous opportunities to network with other interns as well as employees in the organization. Additionally we help our students meet their career development and educational goals while potentially building a future with the Roche organization. Leveraging the education you received already, we hope to give you an opportunity to grow and develop with us!
The position will be within the department of Life Sciences Systems Development. Primary areas of responsibility for the position will be:
· Robotic protocol optimization – Familiarization with user-level programming tools (test definition tool etc.) and optimization of selected protocols regarding time, yield & purity of isolated nucleic acids
· Molecular Biology, Biochemistry – Analyze isolated nucleic acids via q(RT)PCR
Additionally, the selected intern will be asked to participate in various intern activities, which may include workshops with leaders in the organization, our mentor program, and our Poster Symposium among other activities.

Qualifications:
· Major in Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, or equivalent field.
· Ideal if in final year of BS program.
· Prior laboratory experience preferred.
· Experience in isolation of DNA/RNA would be a bonus.
Program Requirements:
· Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university during program calendar year 2016.
· Minimum availability of 12 weeks (Required start on or before program Welcome Reception and end date on or after Summer End Poser Symposium).
· Letter of recommendation from a professor is preferred.
What You Will Learn:
· Application-based programming of pipetting robots, basics of DNA/RNA isolation from biological samples, q(RT)PCR for absolute & relative quantification of purified DNA/RNA
