Student Internship in Vibrational Spectroscopy/Solid State Characterization (6 months)
Stage Basel (Basel-Stadt) Administration
Job description
We offer a six months internship position in the Solid State Analytics labs in the Chemical Biology department in a small team of scientists and analysts who provide scientific analytical expertise and routine analytical services to our customers in medicinal chemistry, formulation research, technical development and GMP quality control. Our main tasks are the characterization of drug substances and drug formulations by means of solid state analytical methods, mainly by vibrational spectroscopy but also including X-ray powder diffraction(XRPD) and imaging technologies.
During the internship your tasks will include:
· Characterization of solid state polymorphs and formulations, mainly by means of FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. In addition there is the opportunity to expand tasks to include XRPD analyses
· Performing analyses and reporting of results
· If successful in supporting daily work requirements, tasks can be extended to include contributing to the evaluation and implementation of new methods and technologies in vibrational spectroscopy, vibrational imaging or other solid state characterization
· Who you are
You're someone who wants to influence your own development. You're looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
You are someone who likes to work in a team and to broaden your skillset to include solid state analytical techniques like FTIR, Raman, XRPD and vibrational imaging. You are also able to work independently after having received training. We are looking for someone who is organized, motivated, enthusiastic and has an eye for detail.
Moreover you are/have:
· Enrolled in Bachelor or Master program at a university
· You are trained (e.g. Bsc) in a scientific or technical field such as chemistry, pharmaceutical technology or materials science. Basic knowledge of chemical functional groups is required.
· Hands-on experience in analytics, practical experience in vibrational spectroscopy is a plus but not required
· Fluent in German, good English knowledge
Information about application documents and start date:
Applications need to include a CV, motivation letter, an academic reference letter and your transcript of records.
The preferred start date of the internship is 01 February 2016 or to be agreed upon. Please clearly indicate your earliest availability in your motivation letter.
Due to regulations non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents.
