Student Internship in Immunosafety (Starting November 2020, for 6 months)

At Roche, we believe it's urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients' lives, and we are fearless in both making decisions and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

Who we are:

The Immunosafety laboratory is part of the BiOmics (Biomarkers, Bioinformatics and Omics) and Pathology department that provides expert solutions to Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) projects by generating and integrating molecular, cellular, tissue and functional data. This way, we deliver unique and holistic insights into drug safety and efficacy and enable informed decisions to bring the best drugs to patients.

This position will entail the development and validation of in vitro immune cell assays to assess immunomodulation and support risk and safety assessment of therapeutic proteins. You will work in an international team of immunologists and laboratory associates in the Immunosafety group.

In this position you will:

·  Help to develop, optimize and regularly perform methods to assess the functions and characteristics of human blood derived immune cells by flow cytometry
·  Setup, optimize and routinely use immunoassays to analyze immune cell cytokine release
·  Perform work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures
·  Analyze, interpret and document experimental data
·  Keep supervisor and team informed of project status
·  Present results to the Immunosafety team

Who you are:

You're someone who wants to influence your own development. You're looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

Furthermore, you are an ambitious student who has recently completed a Master‘s degree in Immunology, Biology or similar Life Sciences discipline and should have good theoretical knowledge in immunology.

Those skills will further boost your application:

·  You have good theoretical knowledge in immunology
·  You have good knowledge of, and experience with cell culture techniques, especially with the isolation and culture of primary immune cells from human blood
·  First experience with multicolor flow cytometry is required
·  Knowledge about immunoassays (e.g. ELISA, ELISPOT) is highly desirable
·  You are familiar with data analysis tools like FlowJo and Prism
·  You are passionate to collaborate in a cross-functional team in a multicultural environment
·  You are fluent in English

If you are proud of contributing and feel you have the dedication to teamwork and innovation that we are seeking, then Roche is the organization for you. Every role at Roche plays a part in making a difference to patients' lives. If you want to work in a hardworking team, make your mark & improve lives, apply now!

What we offer:

We offer you a multicultural workplace in a modern environment, which at the same time offers you an opportunity to collect highly valuable learning experiences. As an intern you are a member of the Roche Interns Network that offers you chances to connect, have fun and get to know Basel, in the heart of Europe.

To be considered, please send us your complete application documents including:

·  Your CV
·  A cover letter

The start date for the internship is December 2020 or upon availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date in your motivation letter.

Due to regulations non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory (“recommended” is not sufficient) as part of the application documents.
