Job description

The Position

A deeply skilled specialist who thrives in solving a variety of complex business problems through practical and ingenious application of technologies with advanced devops knowledge who knows how to apply automation when needed.

Our specialists work on complex issues and needs where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, including technology dependencies, inter-organizational impact and systems thinking approaches.

They contribute to and technically lead challenging projects which require deep technical knowledge and infrastructure engineering skills.

They are accountable and responsible for decision-making in technical design, build and testing, in the context of the projects/ activities to which they are assigned.  In doing so, they exercise sound judgment, balanced with effective consultative engagement of key stakeholders, in the methods and techniques chosen to obtain the desired results. 

They have the required skills, experience and depth of knowledge to be able to significantly influence both IT Infrastructure vendor product selections and improvements.

Proven experience in designing and implementing test driven infrastructure continuous deployment pipelines and Infrastructure as Code technologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to technology designs in their respective infrastructure technology space align and adhere to the organization’s architecture technical strategy, policies, standards and direction

  • To ensure technologies implemented comply Quality/Regulatory standards, as applicable

  • Experience of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service applying Scrum and Agile methodologies and devops mindset.

  • To establish technical direction and contribute/write best practices, position papers, and white papers for the infrastructure technologies and the use cases for their respective technology areas

  • To stay proactive and aware of operational challenges and opportunities; works with support team staff to provide internal escalation support as needed to resolve incidents and major incidents

  • To produce and maintain sufficient documentation for the designs, design patterns, and component standards created or maintained

  • Able to work autonomously and/or under supervision of more senior peers.

  • Contribute to the end-to-end design of infrastructure technologies and the creation and maintenance of related standards

  • To contribute to determining success criteria and to evaluate across technology domains promising technologies via proofs of concept (PoCs) and assess their feasibility in meeting Roche’s business needs

  • To serve as consultant to senior internal/external stakeholders on the relevant technical matters pertaining to the technology strategy

  • To strengthen the overall Engineering community by building bridges and collaborating with other Engineers in other infrastructure technology areas

  • To advise, influence, collaborate with, and integrate feedback from various IT partners including architects, service owners, integrated service owners line-of-business stakeholders

  • To map the technology roadmaps into portfolio projects/activities and to contribute in estimating resources, dependencies, risks, and timelines required to deliver these projects/activities successfully
     

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience acting as Devops

  • Well proven scripting and automation skills with strong knowledge in provisioning, delivering, and managing infrastructure as code, CI/CD and orchestration systems

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Well demonstrated customer & delivery focus 

  • Strong customer engagement and presentation skills with the ability to communicate across all levels (senior and/or large audiences)

  • Ability to work effectively with team members and virtual teams from different locations and different cultural background

  • Ability to function independently with some supervision and navigate ambiguity

  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Highly fluent oral and written communication skills in English.  German, Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin) are significant pluses

  • Proven project and time management skills

  • Moderate to extensive travel (20-30%) required and ability to work across multiple time zones, including some on-call and extended hours work, as required

  • One or more industry certifications in the respective infrastructure technology area(s) are nice to have

Education / Years of Experience

  • 3-6 Years of relevant work experience.

  • or 3-6 Years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's degree.

  • or 1-3 Years of relevant work experience with a Masters degree.

At least 4 years experience of working in one or more multinational work environments (e.g. healthcare industry experience is a plus) as a specialist level Infrastructure Engineer.
 

Technology Skills

Experience in:

  • Designing Storage solutions either on premises or in the public cloud based on: 

    • Object: NetApp StorageGrid, AWS S3 or relevant Object Storage technologies experience

    • Multiprotocol (NAS) systems: NetApp, Isilon or equivalent enterprise file storage technology.

    • Block storage: Pure Storage, Brocade FC switches or equivalent enterprise block storage technology.

  • Coding and scripting: PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby or equivalents

  • Infrastructure as code technologies: Ansible, Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, SaltStack, Rundeck or equivalents

It is a plus:

  • Experience with High-Performance Storage: IBM’s Spectrum Scale (aka GPFS) including Cluster Export Services (CES), Active File Management (AFM) and High Performance Tier (HPT) configurations and its integrations with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.

  • Designing and deploying storage tiering solutions. Storage and/or archiving to the public cloud (AWS)

  • Deploying Lifecycle data analytics tools (ie  iRODS, Igneous, Starfish, Arcitecta) to support automated data tiering

  • Designing and implementing disaster recovery solutions based on business needs and global availability of data sets (using tools such as Cohesity, Rubrik, Veeam, Commvault)

  • Distributed version control and source code management tools: GIT, github or equivalents

  • Public Cloud technologies: AWS, Azure & GCP or equivalents and their storage services

  • Knowledgeable about networking at the physical level and configuration level (RoCE, 100GbE, InfiniBand, etc.)

Expert Certification in several areas of expertise of the domain is desired.
