Synthetic Molecules Technical Development brings a broad range of experience across drug substances, drug products, analytical sciences and manufacturing sciences & technologies, and collaborates closely with key partners in the departments research and early development, commercial Small Molecules and Global Technical Development. Synthetic Molecules Technical Development is responsible for technical development of our synthetic molecules pipeline and for manufacturing of drug substance and drug product for clinical studies.
As part of a team of SHE (Safety - Health - Environmental Protection) Chemists you will be working in the Synthetic Molecules Technical Development organization. Together with the team, you have the responsibility to ensure SHE compliance for this organization in Basel.
Your main responsibilities include the following:
You will provide technical expertise to ensure a safe working environment across the laboratories (analytical and chemical/pharmaceutical laboratories) and clinical manufacturing areas within Synthetic Molecules Technical Development. In addition, the role supports the implementation and adherence to Roche standards at CMOs.
As an expert you lead assigned safety programs and provide related guidance and support to business areas, colleagues and management through training courses, inspections, and written programs.
You provide support and guidance in all SHE relevant areas including the execution of safety risk assessments for Synthetic Molecule development projects and technical projects.
You facilitate audits or inspections and other follow-up procedures to assure compliance with safety regulations and company requirements. You support compliance and sustainability efforts by acting as a primary point of contact for safety, health and environmental questions and concerns.
You advise stakeholders on health and safety design guidelines for particular activities, such as new production equipment, new construction, remodel of existing infrastructure.
You communicate health and safety issues and programs to various levels of management and staff at the assigned location. You conduct investigations as needed for events related to work accidents including the support of root cause analysis, the implementation of improvement measures and the tracking of corrective actions.

In addition, you bring the following qualifications:
Master and/or higher degree in chemistry or chemical engineering with good knowledge of organic chemistry
Several professional experience in a chemical pilot or production plant (commercial or development) within the chemical/pharmaceutical business environment
Solid understanding of regulatory and authority requirements in the field of SHE, experience with performing audits and representing a team during inspections
Good customer focus balanced with the ability to ensure SHE compliance
Ability to consistently perform at a high level in a constantly changing environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in German and English
Experienced in the use of IT systems (e.g. SAP, Enablon, Veeva, Cornerstone or similar)
Willingness to travel up to 10%
This is a temporary position for up to 3 years.
