Territory: Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arizona, Arkansas) Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) at Genentech are field based and report into US Medical Affairs by Therapeutic Area. MSLs are scientifically trained professionals with strong clinical and / or scientific backgrounds and must have excellent communication skills.

The following are the core responsibilities for the Rare Disease MSL role:

·  Exchange complex medical & scientific information with the medical/scientific community and Therapeutic Area Experts in Rare Diseases (TAEs), extended care team members, patient advocacy groups and patient thought leaders Communicate scientific information at various levels of complexity
·  Provide medical/scientific presentations to internal & external groups
·  Bring relevant and timely scientific insights from TAEs that help shape and reshape medical strategy in Rare Disease areas
·  Actively plan and support medical meeting coverage and post meeting deliverables. This includes scientific symposia coverage, TAE meetings booth coverage
·  Actively contribute to TAE identification, segmentation and Rare Disease strategy Plan and execute appropriate proactive field initiatives in close coordination with the medical strategy and tactics
·  Identify key investigators in close collaboration with Medical and Pharma Development teams
·  Facilitate TAE interactions with Genentech Rare Disease Medical Directors Understand Rare Disease regulatory and treatment pathways, patient access, advocacy and associated regional and socioeconomic differences in the United States that lead to the creation of unmet need in these small yet important patient populations
·  Assist with sponsored and supported Rare Disease clinical trials
·  Provide feedback and support as needed to Clinical Development
·  Take a leadership role with special projects and resource development initiatives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

·  Adhere to corporate compliance in all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited requests for medical/scientific information
·  Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in specific therapeutic areas; review scientific journals
·  Identify, attend and support Rare Disease conferences in close coordination with Medical Director and MSL Director
·  Represent the US Medical Affairs (USMA) organization in the Rare Disease medical/scientific community
·  Respond to and document unsolicited requests for off-label information on our products and including products in development
·  Provide internal clinical input and training to internal functions within regulatory guidelines
·  Provide support for content development and delivering clinical presentations at Advisory Boards as needed
·  Develop and cultivate relationships with cross-functional Genentech (and Roche) partners in Medical Affairs, Early Product Development, Commercial, Legal and Regulatory
·  Stay informed and abreast of the external landscape as it relates to assigned drugs and/or indications and the associated therapeutic area(s)
·  Actively contribute in USMA launch planning activities and prepare USMA and field medical team for launch
·  Support his/her manager in developing relevant parts of the medical affairs tactical plans and/or completing other special projects such as preparation of training materials for field forces
·  Work with Field Operations Resource Manager and Medical Director to develop slides and training materials relevant to Rare Disease
·  Help on-board, coach and mentor new and/or less experienced staff members Participate in various internal and external training or other development opportunities
·  Identify and recommend process and other improvements; whether pertinent to his/her specific department and/or beyond

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills (Minimum Requirements):

·  Strong science/clinical background with advanced degree required (e.g. PharmD, PhD, MD); MSL experience or clinical experience in Rare Diseases is preferred Minimum of 5 years in pharmaceutical industry or at least 3 years experience as Rare Disease MSL or related role preferred
·  Understanding of patient care and advocacy groups and their role in the rare disease environments
·  Demonstrated excellence in role with strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration competence
·  Demonstrated flexibility and innovation
·  Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
·  Ability/willingness to travel (80% travel)
·  This is a remote position.
