Job description

The Position

Required:

  • Plan and independently complete in vitro/in vivo experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate body weight/composition, muscle mass, and energy balance.
  • Perform assessments of skeletal muscle function in vivo, in situ, and/or ex vivo.  Experience in or familiarity with skeletal muscle physiology, mechanics, and metabolism.
  • Perform routine rodent handling and dosing, including but not limited to parenteral routes of administration and tissue collection.
  • Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on ex vivo samples in collaboration with colleagues in other departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a matrix organization
  • Requirement for accurate record keeping, independent data analysis, and reporting of data in written and oral formats.  Exceptional attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate complex concepts at all levels of the organization.
  • Support the Head of Strategy & Portfolio of CICoR in managing the day-to-day operations of Portfolio Enabling Board (PEB).  Contribute to the generation of short- and long-term strategic goals, defining successful outcomes and ensuring the effective growth of CICoR to meet these goals.

Desired:

  • A background in the biology and physiology of energy balance regulation and metabolic disease, in particular knowledge in central regulation of metabolism and energy expenditure, disordered eating behaviours and counter regulation of body weight in the context of obesity is desired
  • Experience with food intake / ivGTT, meal pattern analyses in rodents and non-human primates
  • Experience with pancreatic islet isolation and culture. Experience with in vitro/ex vivo assays assessing pancreatic beta-cell function
  • Experience in preclinical models of nausea/vomiting
  • Experience commissioning work through third party organizations and spearheading collaborations outside of Roche to ensure project goals are appropriately supported and resourced.

Qualifications

  • PhD with a focus on metabolism, physiology, biology or related field.
  • 3+ years work experience on drug discovery teams in metabolism discovery, preferably with a focus on obesity and/or type II diabetes in pharmaceutical industry settings is highly desired.
  • Expertise in in vivo workflows, experimental design, execution, data analysis and interpretation
