We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel.
The Medicinal Chemistry Team in Pharma Research and Early Development, located in Basel, is part of Small Molecule Research. We are a community of drug-hunters comprising of expertise in synthesis, design and purification, with a responsibility to convert hypotheses into innovative small molecules for treating diseases of high unmet medical need, closely collaborating with our broader therapeutic areas and functions.
A Scientist/Scientific Contributorin Medicinal Chemistry belongs to a creative team accountable for driving medicinal chemistry projects. Your responsibilities include (but not limited to) the design, synthesis, and purification of novel compounds for potential clinical drug development. You devise and implement state of the art scientific research through conducting laboratory experiments. By designing, planning and executing multi-step organic synthesis and purification of high-quality target molecules for biological screening you maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting. You maintain a current understanding of the synthetic literature and methodology, you highlight and execute innovative chemistry. In addition you:
· Develop a strong foundation in medicinal chemistry principles, structure-activity relationship (SAR), pharmacokinetics (PK/ADME) and their application to molecule design
· Build an awareness of physicochemical and drug-like properties and their impact on developing molecules as drug candidates
· Actively participate in discussions and brainstorming, contributing to new proposals and ideas
· Work in a cross-functional matrix leadership, building strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of teams to enable higher performance
· Adhere to all company safety and compliance requirements.
· Contribute to a learning environment, evolve best project practices, share learnings, be open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement
· Contribute to patent inventorship and support the generation of publications and patents
· As part of the project teams you liaise with Project leader(s) in medicinal chemistry and report to a group leader in medicinal chemistry.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a chemist, PhD in Organic Chemistry with 0-3 years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. You bring:
· Strong synthetic knowledge, analytical and problem solving skills
· The ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix environment as well as independently
· Flexibility to work on multiple projects, ability to skillfully apply knowledge in dynamic and efficient manner
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with good level of fluency in English
· Creativity, passion to learn and a willingness to grow.
