Job description

·  Job facts

We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team in the Roche Innovation Center Basel.

Preclinical Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls is a global function within Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). We develop robust and innovative API synthesis and drug products to supply and enable key preclinical activities paving the way towards Entry Into Human. We are CMC experts and together with our discovery functions partners, we generate scientific and technical knowledge to assess the developability of drug candidates. We build our strength on a broad diversity of enthusiastic technical experts, pharmacists, chemists and analytical chemists delivering and innovating in the space of small molecules, peptides and oligonucleotides.

In this role:

·  You will be part of a team of chemists, purification and analytical sciences experts, supporting a diverse portfolio of small molecule, peptides, nucleic acid and large molecules discovery projects. You develop synthetic routes suitable for the supply of radiolabeled compounds required for pre-clinical and human studies. You are accountable for the scientific and technical excellence of the work performed within your area of responsibility
·  You stay abreast of developments and trends pertinent to small molecules, peptides, nucleic acids and large molecule radiolabeling. You attend relevant conferences, build strong internal and external relationships to maintain a strategic understanding of the drug R&D technology environment and recommend priorities
·  You are committed to performing lab work

What else are we offering?

We are dedicated to support our staff in the development of their knowledge and skills and offer further career opportunities where people demonstrate talent and aptitude.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a committed individual who brings:

·  PhD in organic synthesis (or Ms with equivalent experience and relevant professional experience with the focus on process chemistry, radiochemistry or a related area). You possess a sound understanding of the drug development process and a good knowledge of key aspects and scientific methods used to synthesize new drug candidates
·  Deep knowledge of organic chemistry with excellent experimental skills, in particular in the synthesis, isolation, purification and analytical characterization of drug substances. Hands on expertise in radiolabeling and stable isotope labeling chemistry with specific working knowledge of facilities & equipment and training in radiation protection is an advantage
·  Expertise in handling and chemical modification of biomolecules (conjugation/ligation chemistry) is a key asset
·  Creative thinking. You are curious or passionate about scientific and technical innovation. You can quickly learn and adapt your thinking to complex and evolving environments
·  Ability to guide the work of others and operate in agile teams. You can lead and motivate others, as well as prioritize and coordinate their work through to successful outcomes
·  Strong cross-functional teaming skills: you have an inclusive and collaborative way of interacting. You demonstrate good communication skills that enable you to effectively collaborate within cross-functional teams (Discovery and Technical Development Teams) and interact across interfaces (Toxicology, DMPK, Discovery Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Large Molecule Research, Regulatory and Clinical Development)
