We are looking for a Senior Scientist Assay Development with a keen interest in the fields of drug discovery and development. You will join the department of Immune and Cell Biology, which belongs to a unit called Large Molecule Research within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). This position therefore offers the opportunity to interact with numerous functions within Roche also at different sites to deliver novel medicines to patients.

You will be cooperating with a team of employees within a functional matrix of highly skilled and experienced lab co-workers and peers.

The job in a nutshell:

Your work focusses on functional assays that mimic the mode of action for a drug target in vitro using cell based systems. You have a strong background in immune and cell biology and can set up and establish primary cell assays ranging from cancer cells to immune cells (adaptive and myeloid) as well as neuronal cells.

The main tasks of this position:

·  You will establish and perform in vitro cellular assays to mimic the mode of action for biologics in drug development. The cellular systems you use will vary from project to project and can include a variety of different primary cell types, as well different reporter cell lines.
·  Troubleshooting by integrating a broad biological understanding and literature search is your daily business.
·  You establish biological readouts for a broad spectrum of biologics and for differentDisease Therapeutic Areas (DTAs), which may e.g. include autoimmune diseases, cancers, neurological diseases or eye diseases.
·  You will use a variety of functional readouts, which includeFACS, ELISA, Confocal and reporter cell systems, which are used to elucidate the mode of action of therapeutic proteins.
·  You will be member of local and global project teams where you represent your results to the teams and the main department.
·  The transfer of the established readouts and protocols to other units within pRED also belongs to your responsibilities.
·  You will be part of and supporting a highly ambitious team within the department of Immune Biology that belongs to Large Molecule Research (LMR), but also closely collaborate with all Disease Therapeutic Areas (DTAs).

And the technical requirements for this position?

·  Abitur or equivalent graduation diploma
·  University degree in biochemistry, biology, Immunology or similar area including PhD or master degree and several years of relevant professional experience
·  A strong background in immune biology, signaling pathways, cellular interactions is necessary for this position
·  Ideally, you discovered previously a complicated cellular mode of action
·  Project management
·  Fluent English language skills
·  IT (and data skills (MS Office)
·  Expertise in various reporter and primary cell assays (for innate and adaptive immune cells, cancer and/or neuronal cells). Specific expertise in the following techniques and readouts: FACS analysis, Western Blot, ELISA and Luciferase activity assays

This position is limited for 2 years.
