Scientist, Biomarker Discovery in Ophthalmology
Job Description:
An opportunity exists in the Department of Biomarker Discovery for a highly motivated and talented scientist in the area of Ophthalmology to support our pursuit of innovative treatments for ocular diseases such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.

The investigator will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge translational research that supports pharmacodynamic biomarker and new target discovery in patients with ocular diseases, elucidating the effects of new experimental therapies on disease pathways, and defining patients most likely to benefit from targeted therapies.

The successful candidate will run a laboratory that uses a variety of molecular, cellular, genetic, and pharmacological techniques to investigate mechanisms of ocular disease, direct bench based scientific staff, and will be expected to publish their original findings in top tier peer reviewed journals.

The scientist will closely collaborate with Immunology & Neuroscience discovery scientists, and will also work with clinical development teams.

The position will report to the head of the Biomarker Discovery Department.
Requirements:

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience in an area of biology relevant to translational disease research.

Preference will be given to candidates with research and/or clinical experience in the areas of ocular disease, single cell genomics, utilization of in vitro model systems, gene therapy, regenerative medicine, biomarkers, and/or bioinformatics.

The candidate must have demonstrated a record of sustained scientific accomplishments as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals and presentations of their work at relevant scientific conferences.

Candidates from industry should have made significant and creative efforts contributing to the advancement of understanding of disease biology and the process of biomarker and diagnostics development.

All candidates should exhibit evidence of collaborative interactions and the potential to organize and lead a productive research team.
