As a Scientist focusing in Virology Discovery, you are part of Roche Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) in the I3 (Immunology, Inflammation and Infectious Disease) Disease Therapeutic Area (DTA) in Basel, Switzerland. The Roche Virology Group actively collaborates within and beyond the I3 DTA to develop innovative research to reliably deliver the next generation of antiviral therapies to patients. The Virology Group is a highly motivated and dedicated group that excels in teamwork to deliver new ideas and new therapies for important areas of unmet medical need in virology. Virology is seeking an exceptional, highly motivated, and talented Scientist to perform in vitro experiments identifying novel disease therapeutic targets and test novel drug candidates using established and emerging models of our disease focus arras. As a Scientist, you will interact closely with other scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and other associates in a laboratory focused on the development of new therapeutics for virology, as well as interacting outside of the lab across the company on these efforts.
Your Responsibilities:
· Develop in vitro models of virus disease and use these models to develop new approaches to treating infectious diseases of interest
· Design, execute and interpret experiments to test hypotheses related to various exploratory ideas in virology
· Assay novel small molecule, large molecule and RNA based drug candidates for their effect on virus entry, replication, assembly and stability, including relative comparisons of efficacy to allow for compound optimization
· Presentation of results from your work, and perhaps work of a larger team, to management to allow for proper strategic decision making on research programs
· Work in a flexible and collaborative environment to deliver science needed to deliver on the virology portfolio
Your Qualifications:
· Ph.D. in virology or a closely related discipline, two years of relevant post-doctoral training in virology or a related field. Prior experience in the pharmaceutical industry is beneficial.
· Ability to design and conduct modern molecular virology experiments as part of a team
· Experience in molecular biology, gene expression, protein analysis, cell culture, virus genetics, and assay development
· Highly collaborative team focused approach to scientific research
· Excellent team and communication skills with confirmed organizational and planning abilities and an exellent command of English
