Roche Diagnostics Cape Town would hereby like to invite applications for an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Reagent and Assay Development team for a 6-month contract as a Scientist II.

Description :

The Development department ensures product quality, consistency and operational efficiency through new product design and the development of optimized and validated processes and test methods. The Scientist II contract position will report directly to the Reagent & Assay Development Principal Scientist II, and will be responsible for the following:

Roles and Responsibilities :

· 
Organize, conduct and monitor laboratory experiments utilizing established and published procedures, and technical and theoretical understanding. Make recommendations to resolve problems encountered during experimental procedures.

· 
Participates in project planning, process updates, and experimental design.

· 
Assumes responsibility for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results. Summarizes experimental results, and reviews conclusions with supervisor/project leader. Communicates results of experiments.

· 
Analyzes, interprets and records experimental data in a timely manner according to established formats. May produce reports and documents, and present findings at internal meetings. Forms conclusions, and provides insight into process improvements.

· 
Plans and executes work independently and manages own time to accomplish assigned objectives.

· 
Keeps supervisor/project leader informed of project status, particularly of significant findings and results in critical problem areas.

· 
Establishes, as appropriate, cross-functional relationships.

· 
Keeps informed of trends and developments in the area of scientific responsibility.

· 
Applies broad concepts of a particular field or specialization to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity.

· 
Participates in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation.

· 
Performs work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA).

· 
Ensures QMS compliance by completing and keeping up to date with assigned training prior to using any laboratory equipment.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements :

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry or related field

Preferred: Honour's or Master's Degree

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

· 
Knowledge and practical experience of NGS applications or a proven biochemistry background will be beneficial.

· 
Should possess working knowledge of automation, laboratory equipment, manufacturing processes and/or design processes.

· 
Should possess working knowledge of reagent/assay development and manufacturing processes in a health authority regulated environment.

·

Required: 2+ years of relevant experience
