We are looking for a talented Scientist with high motivation and experience in the field of electrochemical biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics.

Your Position and Department

You will work within a multidisciplinary technology group within the R&D Early Development department of Roche Diagnostic Centralized and Point of Care Solutions. The group focuses on the development of innovative technological solutions for future diagnostic systems providing superior performance and medical value.

Your key responsibilities

You will work on technologies enabling the fast-track development of point of care biosensors for the quantitative determination of analytes, such as electrolytes, small molecules and proteins. The electrochemical detection includes potentiometric, amperometric and impedance methods as well as field-effect-transistor sensing. You will investigate, develop and evaluate methodologies, thus providing a toolbox for a robust and rapid biosensor development.

·  Development of biosensor layout, assay formulation and protocol as well as the detection method
·  Functionalization and modification of surfaces with biomolecules and sensor components (conductive materials, biomolecules like antibodies or enzymes, mediators, linkers, PEG, etc.) with suited spotting and dosing methods with high accuracy and reproducibility
·  Biosensor fabrication in a lab scale and its physical and functional characterization
·  Biosensor lab testing with samples of human origin or surrogate solutions using suited electrochemical methods and protocols
·  Advanced data analysis, reporting and documentation
·  Preparation and presentation of progress reports
·  Contribution to technical reports and reviews
·  Engage and work successfully with multidisciplinary teams

·  You have successfully completed a PhD in chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, materials science or other related disciplines
·  You have experience in biosensor development and lab fabrication, surface modification techniques, electrochemical analytical methods and related instrumental and software tools
·  You have expertise in the evaluation of large data volumes with suited software like MATLAB, R or PHYTON
·  You have a good general knowledge of microfluidics, medical devices and point-of-care diagnostics
·  You convince us with your reliability, diligence and accuracy as well as solution-oriented thinking
·  You enjoy working in a team and show intercultural competence
·  You are fluent in spoken and written English
·  You are highly motivated to make a productive contribution in a dynamic, innovative and leading development area

This position will be filled with effect September 2020 and is limited to 2 years.
