The Department of Neuroscience is inviting applications for a Principal / Staff Scientist position (rank equivalent to full professor in academia). We are seeking an exceptional, highly motivated and creative scientist to lead innovative research efforts focused on the mechanisms of neurodevelopment and/or brain function relevant to nervous system diseases. The successful candidate will head a research group with the mission to identify novel drug targets and discover new drugs to treat nervous system disorders. The ideal candidate will have expertise in molecular and cellular biology using both in vitro and in vivo model systems, and possess a deep mechanistic understanding of the cellular pathways that contribute to diseases of the nervous system (such as neurodegenerative diseases, neuroinflammation, aging). A consistent track record of publications in top tier journals is required together with strong communication and management skills. The position will involve close collaboration with other research labs in Neuroscience as well as investigators in areas such as human genetics, bioinformatics, proteomics, imaging, and small molecule and large molecule drug discovery. As a senior member of the Department, the successful candidate will be expected to mentor junior colleagues as well as lab members in rigorous research, smart decision making and career development. He/she will be expected to publish their research in high quality journals and participate in the scientific leadership of the Neuroscience department.

Qualifications

A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD and a track record of sustained, significant independent scientific contributions in areas relevant to the Department's mission. In general, this would require at least 10 years of leading a research laboratory with demonstrated academic achievement, as evidenced by publications in high impact journals. Evidence of scientific leadership and mentoring also is required, through leadership activities in scientific societies, academic institutions and training of students and postdoctoral fellows. The candidates should have strong communication skills and genuine interest in translating basic research insights into impactful therapeutics.
