Position Summary:

At Roche Sequencing Solutions, we are driven to transform healthcare with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and applications. We are seeking a self-motivated bioinformatics scientist to join our Assay Bioinformatics group, where we collaborate with experimentalists and algorithm developers to build analysis methods for innovative NGS-based end-to-end products. Responsibilities Include:

·  Plan and perform prototyping, optimization, and validation of bioinformatics methods for NGS data analysis.
·  Collaborate closely with other departments to meet project milestones, such as working with other bioinformatics groups to assess algorithms and derive technical requirements for product specifications and working closely with experimentalists to design and analyze studies to optimize NGS procedures and analysis approaches.
·  Work proactively with stakeholders and independently recommend solutions to technical problems during the course of a project. Participate in project planning, study design, and critical decision-making.
·  Engage in customer-facing activities, such as generating marketing materials, providing training to other departments, and troubleshooting customer cases.
·  Evaluate and recommend product improvements based on real-world samples.
·  Maintain detailed documentation and use strong technical writing skills to prepare reports, presentations, manuscripts, and posters.
·  Effectively communicate analysis results to different technical and non-technical groups. Present results and progress updates at internal or external meetings, make presentations to scientific collaborators, and support publications.
·  Reliably provide expert-level technical support to other team members and groups.

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Master's degree (in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related discipline) and 7 years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. and 4 years related experience.
·  Extensive experience in analyzing NGS data with in-house or open source bioinformatics tools for NGS analysis, variant calling, annotation, and QC.
·  Expertise in algorithm optimization and experiment design. Proven ability to proactively evaluate methods and propose directions to improve.
·  Knowledge of molecular biology, statistics, and human genetics / genomics.
·  Strong problem-solving and data analysis and interpretation skills.
·  Good proficiency in Python, R, bash scripting, linux command-line tools, and running jobs on a High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster.
·  Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment and adapt to changing business and technical environments.
·  Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
·  Experience serving as a technical lead preferred.
