As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Global Pathology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, you will focus on a research project aiming at comparing digitized vs. glass slides review with a focus on toxicologic pathology. Technologies and workflows for digital peer review will be assessed, with the goal of implementing digital slide review of toxicology studies, to improve efficiency of the slide review process, with integration of digital slide review into an end-to-end digital lab workflow including scanning, slide sharing, annotation and machine learning/image analysis. The Freie Universität Berlin, Fachbereich Veterinärmedizin, Institut für Tierpathologie is Roche's academic partner for this Postdoctoral Fellowship. The partnership with academia is an important aspect of our approach.
In this position you will:
· Design a prospective study to compare efficiency and precision of digital vs. glass slide review
· Implement a high throughput digital slide review workflow, with focus on developing best practices
· Investigate possibilities for machine learning as a complement to pathologist slide review
· Work in a multidisciplinary team of veterinary pathologists, biologists and imaging specialists
This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and is initially set for two years, extension for a third year is possible. You will be based in Basel, with stays at our academic partner in Berlin.

You are a veterinarian with a postgraduate scientific degree in the field of pathology (PhD or Dr.med.vet. with subsequent postdoctoral experience) and hold an international postgraduate qualification in pathology (DiplECVP, DiplACVP), or are eligible to sit the relevant exams. In addition:
· Digital Pathology/Image Analysis expertise is required
· Toxicologic pathology experience is a benefit
· Proficiency in written and spoken English is required
· You have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships, and are a strong team player
· Your experience and investigative mindset allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.
