Job description

·  Job facts

Who we are and what we do?

We are a protein mass spectrometry group with a wide array of tasks ranging from analytics in target assessment, through process research support, until extended characterization of drug candidates entering clinical trials. We are one of 5 groups within the larger Mass Spectrometry department, and we are also specifically responsible for laboratory automation, digitalization and data management. Our international team consists of four research scientists and two computer scientists with a wide range of competencies and experience. Our department is part of Large Molecule Research (LMR) – the protein technological unit within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). LMR generates new therapeutic antibodies according to a specific target compound profile, optimizes the identified lead series and develops a suited clinical lead candidate up to phase I trials. Our dedication is to deliver highly differentiated biologics that bring game changing benefit to patients.

We are offering a unique opportunity to work in a positive, highly dynamic and multidisciplinary environment. Our aim is to be at the forefront of innovation, delivering first and best in class drugs to patients in need. We are looking for a highly motivated PostDoc (m/f/d) in the field of protein mass spectrometry to enrich our team. If this sounds attractive to you, please join us and share your knowledge and experience, while making a great impact and expanding your skills and horizons in one of the world's largest healthcare companies.

What's the job about?

You will work on the interface between protein mass spectrometry analytics and upstream process (USP) development. The focus of your PostDoc project is the development of mass spectrometry and protein biochemistry methods for near real time or high throughput analysis of protein samples generated during a bioreactor process. This includes developing fast or automated workflows to analyze and influence upstream process development in real time, or following protein product quality kinetics during a time course. These tasks will have a significant impact on the process research and development paradigms at Roche and will be conducted in collaboration with and with the support of lab and computer/data modelling scientists in the MS and upstream development departments.

What exciting tasks will be part of your daily work?

·  Your key responsibilities comprise of:
·  the design of experimental workflows and development of efficient methods for biochemical sample preparation of proteins from different sources and matrices.
·  setting up methods for efficient LC-MS analysis of various therapeutic protein candidates.
·  making sure the generated MS data are processed and analyzed with appropriate software tools and workflows.
·  It will be your responsibility to closely interact and collaborate with scientists from the Mass Spectrometry and USP departments.
·  Presentation of data internally and externally as well as literature search is part of your regular tasks. The publication of results will be supported.

Do you have what it takes for this position?

·  Personally , you are goal oriented, have a strong drive, analytical mindset and motivation to achieve excellence; you are willing to perform wet lab experiments and eager to establish new techniques and challenge the status quo.
·  You are a strong team player, but capable of working independently where necessary. Ideally, you have experience in working in interdisciplinary and international teams.
·  You are a good communicator, making sure your ideas and results are put on the table, and are happy to receive constructive feedback and learn from it.
·  Technically , you have finished your BSc or MSc degree in biochemistry, molecular (cell) biology, biotechnology, chemistry or a related field, and hold a PhD degree in one of these fields.
·  We can rely on your strong background in protein (bio)chemistry and protein mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
·  Experience in mammalian cell culture, protein expression, antibody engineering, lab automation and high-throughput sample processing, or basic programming are a plus.
·  Excellent English skills (written and spoken) complete your profile.

This position is limited to a period of two years (with positive results an extension is possible) .

We look forward receiving your application!
