The position:

You will join an expert team in the Pharma Technical Development Europe Cell Culture unit, with the focus on Late Stage Process Development for new products with the focus on those medicines which uses viral vectors to cure genetic diseases with high medical need.

The objective of your work is to implement technologies for the process development, production and characterization of recombinant viral vectors with a focus of those derived from AAV. Your position is in Pharma Technical Development at the Roche Site in Penzberg. Part of the work is in collaborations with international Roche sites as well as academic institutions.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

·  You are responsible for the implementation of recombinant technologies which will be used to develop and manufacture recombinant predominantly AAV derived viral vectors.
·  Based on your deep understanding of virology and cell biology you develop strategies which allows improving the productivity and ensuring manufacturability
·  You will identify, develop, and implement new technologies to characterize such viral vectors
·  You will execute the project tasks proactively with internal and external partners, in particular in tight collaboration with the local gene therapy implementation team
·  Furthermore, you make sure that your technology and intellectual capabilities related to the gene therapy are ‘top class’. This includes attending (and presenting at) scientific meetings, publication of scientific advances (after appropriate IP-protection) and interacting with the academic community.
·  Based on your work, you will contribute to submission of clinical trials and market applications.

Who you are:

·  You hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or in another related field with scientific contributions in the topic of viruses or gene therapy
·  You have hands on experience in the field of adeno associated viruses and virus vector technology, including small scale production and product characterization
·  You demonstrate your qualification by at least one first author paper published or accepted in a high-quality journal during your PhD
·  You are highly motivated and flexible to work on challenging frontline projects
·  You are a team player but you also have the ability to work independently with excellent planning and organizational skills
·  You are a creative scientist with a high degree of perseverance
·  Highly effective communication skills are one of your strengths
·  Fluent English skills, written and spoken, is a must

This position is fixed termed to 2 years with the potential extension for an additional year.
