PhD studentship in Toxicology & Bioinformatics (3 years)
Stage Basel (Basel-Stadt)
Job description
Job facts
The mission of pre-clinical safety evaluations in drug development is to identify any potential side-effect liabilities of new drug-candidates and evaluate their potential translatability to the patient population.
As a PhD student in the group of Project Leaders and Modelling & Simulation you will work within a EU-funded research project which aims to develop an innovative infrastructure connecting pre-clinical & clinical data (translational safety database). You will do your PhD thesis in the scope of translational data analysis, safety biomarker and in silico modelling. Use the translational safety database in order to develop novel read-across techniques to predict effects on the basis of chemical and biological similarity.
Develop a flexible machine-learning framework, allowing for the optimal exploitation of chemical and biological information.
· Establish assessment of new compounds in terms of potential human safety based on translational similarity approaches, integrating omics profiles
· Develop approaches to assess the inter-species translational applicability of predictive models developed from preclinical data (animal and in vitro assays), with the aim to score their clinical relevance
· Develop Use Cases that act as archetypes to drive development and evaluation of the envisaged tools, and allow expansion of the current knowledge about translational safety approaches
· Get experience to work in a multifunctional consortium consisting of big pharmaceutical companies, SMEs and universities
· Gain insight into various aspects of modern drug discovery and development
