Job description

·  Job facts

At Roche, we believe it is urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients' lives. We are brave in both decision and action; we believe that good business means a better world.

Who we are

BEDA is a research group that employs and develops computational tools to analyze biological data. These activities support the identification of new drug targets and biomarkers as well as the validation of existing drug targets. Emphasis is on using cutting edge techniques such as gene or protein expression profiling analysis methods and implementing them successfully within project teams.

As a PhD student in the Bioinformatics and Exploratory Data Analysis group (BEDA), located in Basel, you will work in close collaboration with scientists in Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) using state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools and methods. The main focus of this internship is to establish and apply computational approaches to understanding and optimization of human core promoter sequences.

Your tasks will include:

Literature review of recently established methods to calculate and interpret “binding landscapes” of human promoters Identification of existing in-house and publicly available datasets on transcription factor binding preferences Mining of large-scale data sets such as FANTOM5 to establish relationships between promoters, enhancers, and target genes Interpretation and prediction of mutations within human promoter regions
