BiOmics (Biomarkers, Bioinformatics and Omics) and Pathology provides expert solutions to Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) projects by generating and integrating molecular, cellular, tissue and functional data. This way, we deliver unique and holistic insights into drug safety and efficacy and enable informed decisions to bring the best drugs to patients.

We are looking for a Veterinary and Toxicologic Pathologist to join our department.

The pathology group is involved in discovery support and preclinical development, by providing excellent scientific leadership and input in new target identification, validation and preclinical safety assessment.

Core tasks and responsibilities:

Scientific Function:

·  Provide expert support in preclinical development, namely toxicologic pathology which encompasses
·  Project-specific adaptation of the design of toxicologic studies according to the scientific state of the art and the relevant official guidelines
·  Histopathologic data generation and interpretation, and integration as part of evaluation of toxicology studies according to the principles of GLP
·  Peer review of pathology data/interpretations performed by other pathologists (in‑house and/or CROs)
·  Evaluation of clinical pathology data of toxicology studies, integration with histopathology data and any relevant study data for optimal study interpretation
·  Pathology support for project teams in the selection and further development of clinical candidates
·  Interpreting of test results and reporting in appropriate form (Research Report, Regulatory Documentation, Publications, Presentations)
·  Monitoring of studies performed at contract laboratories
·  Support advancement of digital pathology
·  Key contributor to the development and implementation of discovery pathology strategy
·  Provide scientific guidance and support in anatomic and clinical pathology for basic research activities, discovery projects and early preclinical safety projects in several therapeutic disciplines.
·  Provide guidance and participate in development of relevant animal models and selection of compounds for development
·  Establish new methods to elucidate mechanisms of toxicity and identify new safety biomarkers from target assessment through all stages of drug development.
·  Look for new techniques/technology(ies) and external collaborations to optimize scientific support in pre-clinical development
·  Be aware of and have access to key consultants and scientists in the field. Establish and maintain contacts to external opinion leaders to keep up with latest scientific developments

Administrative Function:

·  Report to Head Pathology
·  Maintain open links with other disciplines within and outside the department
·  Collaborate closely with colleagues of toxicology/ toxicology project leaders, and other departments in Basel and the other Roche Innovation centers.
·  Collaborate across a multitude of pRED disciplines and play an active role in developing the pathology strategy.

Required Training and Qualification:

·  University education in Veterinary Medicine to doctoral level
·  Specialization in diagnostic and experimental veterinary and toxicological pathology (Dipl. ECVP/ACVP)
·  Excellent communication skills, teamwork and fluent English
·  You are a Team Player
