Purpose:
The Specialty Neuroscience Field Lead is responsible for the leading a team of expert Neuroscience MSLs focused on field medical support for MS, NMO, stroke and Alzheimer's disease. This leader will be an Agile leader who not only leads and inspires the MSLs in field to ensure a valued scientific customer experience but also manages peer stakeholder relationships in the field and home office. This leader will continuously enable and enhance MSL competencies that foster scientific exchange with key stakeholders across the healthcare ecosystem (e.g., local and external scientific and medical communities, managed care, etc.). They will also be responsible for delivering core work to support MSLs in field (e.g., core training, Safety, Proactive and Reactive Communications, working in an agile environment etc.). The Field Leads are also accountable for ensuring that the MSL team stays abreast of the latest innovations and share actionable insights with appropriate stakeholders across the organization. The Field Leads will co-create the strategy and field execution plans for their respective teams. An important work for the Field Lead will be understanding and accurate adoption of Policy and SOPs in the MSL activities in the field and measure impact of engagements.
The person selected for this role will also be expected to partner closely with commercial field leaders, Squad, Access, T&D, Legal and Compliance.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
• Is proficient in MSL and field-based personnel role and responsibilities
• Co-create with MSL Team Lead on customer-specific strategy, vision, objectives, and priorities based on squad priorities
• Build, cultivate and share relationships with external regional scientific, medical, and managed care communities to ensure strong understanding of evolving healthcare trends; for Managed Care Field Lead specifically, focus should be on prioritizing relationships with key access decision-makers in managed care organizations, government programs, employers, hospital systems, and product distribution companies to enhance access to and optimize formulary positioning for Genentech products
• Attend conferences each year to stay up-to-date on the latest scientific developments and network with thought leaders, TAEs, and other key customers
• Coach MSLs (~5-9) to support key deliverables that focus on issues specific to customer need from scientific exchange, clinical trials, managed care topics, value-based topics and customer engagement across USMA, disease specific medical teams, and the broader Genentech organization.
• Work with MSL Team Leads to identify upskilling opportunities and ensure MSLs are upskilled on topics relevant to customers (e.g., medical, scientific, value-based / total cost care discussions, and customer experience) with CMG T&D
• Accompany MSLs on once a quarter to coach MSLs in field (typically ~70% of the time in field)
• Attend and contribute to regional Field Lead meetings across therapeutic areas to discuss and raise relevant regional issues to FMT Head and Genentech, requiring a strong business understanding of customer needs and priorities within their region
• Collaborate across CMG regional field leaders to understand regional needs from a broader perspective and ensure consistency in strategic priorities; for Managed Care MSL Field Lead specifically, participate in other segment initiatives (employers, pharmacy benefits management organizations, etc.) to provide medical expertise internally and externally to support optimized access and formulary access
• Maintain the highest standards and levels of scientific, clinical, health economic and technical expertise, and ensure the same among staff members; reviewing and keeping updated on scientific/medical journals and other relevant publications, attending scientific, clinical, commercial and other key conferences, forums, and meetings
Requirements:
Candidates for this position should hold the following qualifications, have the following experience, and be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities to be considered as a suitable applicant. Years of experience listed below can be substituted with equivalent, relevant competency levels.
Qualification:
• Advanced Clinical/Science Degree is preferred (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD, MSN, MPH, etc.)
Knowledge:
• GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and ICH (International Conference on Harmonization of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use) proficient
• In-depth knowledge of Phase IV/post-marketing drug development is preferred
• Relevant therapeutic area knowledge is preferred, dependent on customer base
• Comprehensive understanding of product and safety profiles
• Understanding of managed care, health economics, healthcare reimbursement, managed care customers and the distribution channels relevant to pharmaceutical/biotechnology organizations; specifically for Managed Care MSL Field Lead, an in-depth understanding of these
• Familiarity with the current legal and regulatory landscape pertinent to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry
Required Experience:
• Minimum of 7 years related work experience (clinical, managed care, or industry experience)
• Prior experience as a field medical science liaison is preferred
• 2 or more years' clinical or health economic research experience (either in industry or in another, related setting) is preferred
• Experience leading or managing MSL or customer-facing team and/or demonstrated ability to lead without authority is preferred
• 2 years' experience in therapy area is preferred
Skills:
• Strong, relevant therapeutic experience either in therapeutic area or in managed care, depending on customer base, and strong knowledge of the drug development process is preferred
• Learning mindset, open to training and becoming an expert across customer types or multiple therapeutic areas; ability to learn other disease or product areas as business needs and product life cycles change
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills; proven abilities to manage multiple, often complex and sometimes competing, objectives, goals and other priorities to effective and efficient conclusion
• Previous management responsibilities with proven success in leading people and projects to consistently deliver desired results highly preferred
• Focus on being a coach and a catalyst to team members
• Outstanding business acumen; knows the industry, Genentech's business model and value proposition, key competitors and other marketplace factors/dynamics
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; exhibits professional maturity, confidence, and competence. Strong conflict resolution skills; proven ability to effectively and quickly achieve conflict resolution with affected parties.
• Knows how to summarize and communicate complex information and business objectives in a concise and effective way for important decisions

• In addition to passing Genentech's background screening, the employee must submit to and pass additional background screening as required by some institutions and health facility sales accounts (additional screening requests may include but are not limited to background checks, immunization, TB, HIV, hepatitis, and drug screening)
• Business travel, by air or car, is required for regular internal /external business meetings and field visits for coaching individuals (up to 70% of time)
• This position requires significant use of either a company provided or personal vehicle to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the role. As a result, Genentech, Inc.
