Job description

Our team consists of scientists working in the field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We develop algorithms and data-analysis pipelines to identify genes, pathways, and biological networks modulated by diseases, and to assess efficacy and safety of new drugs using molecular evidence. We aim at integrative understanding of diseases and systematic characterization of Mechanism of Action of drugs. In addition, we support Research & Development projects with Bioinformatics and Computational Biology expertise.

During the internship your tasks will include:

·  Establish a software pipeline to infer gene regulatory networks with large-scale data mining and machine learning techniques
·  Compare inferred gene regulatory networks with networks curated from literature
·  Setup a workflow to integrate prior knowledge of gene regulatory networks into omics data analysis pipelines
·  Benchmark the new workflow against internal and external tools.

·  Who you are

You're someone who wants to influence your own development. You're looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

You are motivated by the idea of applying network analysis and machine learning to biological data, and want to transform the idea into a Master thesis in a multidisciplinary team. You want to gain first-hand experience in applying Computational Biology approaches to solve problems in pharmaceutical research projects.

Your qualifications include but are not limited to the following:

·  You are enrolled in a Master program at a university, studying and/or having a background and interest in both Biology as well as one of the following disciplines: Mathematics, Physics, Informatics, or Engineering
·  Programming skills in R, python, C/C++, go, or Java
·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

The preferred start date of the internship is June, 2016 or upon availability.

Applications need to include a CV and a motivation letter. Optional: a software project (e.g. Google Summer of Code, or projects at Github, SourceForge, R/Bioconductor, et al.), and/or a reference letter.

Due to regulations non-EU/EFTA citizens must provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory as part of the application documents.

·  Who we are
