Job description

The Position

The Legal Counsel contributes to the success of Roche (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd by supporting the organization and working with various stakeholders throughout the business to provide sound commercial and legal advice across a wide variety of matters affecting the business.

Your principal responsibilities will be to

  • Draft, review, negotiate and finalize a wide range commercial contracts

  • Provide comprehensive legal support with a view to ensuring the Company achieves its goals and appropriately manages legal risk (to take into account laws and regulations relating (but not limited) to the pharmaceutical industry, employment, commercial, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, employment law, competition law, marketing and advertising, anti-bribery law, litigation and disputes) 

  • Systematically review and manage contractual obligations and provide continual review to ensure that all terms and conditions are met

  • Assist in driving critical key projects to ensure activities are both commercially sound and legally compliant

  • Identify risks and opportunities derived from changes in legislation/regulations and ensure that the key legal aspects are taken into account in both planning and decision processes

  • Build legal compliance knowledge through training, knowledge sharing and awareness

  • Play a crucial role in ensuring business is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Identify and manage commercial and legal risks and issues and work for the creation and delivery of sound commercial proposals that meet corporate goals and protects the Company’s risk/liability levels, reputation and financial interests.

Professional and Technical Requirements

Essential minimum requirements:

  • A Qualified lawyer (preferably Malaysia) with strong post-qualification experience or equivalent experience in private practice and/or an in-house legal function.

  • Strong technical skills and knowledge, good communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts fostering a culture of collaboration. 

  • Teamwork and collaboration – Builds bridges across geographical, cultural and functional boundaries to enhance collaboration.      

  • Communication – strong communication skills, capable of clearly articulating and bringing clarity to even the most complex concepts.

  • Inspiring and Influencing – Infuses the organisation with a sense of purpose. Rallies support throughout the organisation to get things done.

  • Decision Making – Understands the broad context for decisions and reflects that context in how decisions are made. Capable of making sound decisions even in the face of ambiguous circumstances or contradictory requirements.
