GenMark's R&D team is looking for a Lab Manager who will reach throughout the organization to engage others, align, and deliver services that support their product development.
Your career opportunity:
As a Lab Manager, you will take on an active role and make a positive impact on GenMark's R&D team activities by overseeing, coordinating, or executing any activities that will maintain a safe, clean, functional, and organized laboratory environment.
You are serving as the main point of contact for R&D laboratories. You are overseeing compliance with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures in the R&D Laboratories as needed. Also, you oversee the R&D laboratory's cleaning and organization.
You have constant interactions with other internal departments, as necessary, to address equipment issues (Maintenance), safety concerns (EHS) and to order chemicals/reagents (Warehouse and Supply Chain). You are coordinating laboratory equipment setup as needed as well as executing administrative tasks related to it.
Preparing training modules as appropriate to maintain laboratory compliance in several areas.
You are responsible for procurement in laboratory supplies, reagents, chemicals, and small equipment (Calibrated Pipettes). Also, you are responsible for maintaining oligonucleotides, chemicals, and biological inventories.
Preparing reagents and solutions as needed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods, including industry standard good laboratory practices.
You are performing contamination monitoring testing under minimal supervision. You are analyzing and compiling testing data and writing related reports.
Conducting general molecular biology tasks, including PCR amplification of target sequences, DNA quantification or analysis by gel electrophoresis.
Developing and maintaining a database system to record and inventory oligonucleotides, nucleic acids, and biological samples. Also, you are assisting in verifying documents, including data summaries, reports, SOPs, and procedures.
You should be able to work across multiple sites in San Diego.
Who you are
- You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field
- 2-4 years of molecular biology (including DNA quantification) or biochemistry laboratory experience post-B.S. degree.
- Firsthand experience with biological sample handling, microbiology, nucleic acid purification, molecular biology methods and techniques including PCR
- Experience working with pathogenic bacteria or viruses; willingness to work regularly in BSL-2 environment
Behaviors, competencies, and qualities of the ideal applicant.
- Is preferred to have experience as a research associate with PCR and molecular biology in an industrial setting.
- At least one (1) year experience working within a regulated 510(k) or PMA product development environment – FDA, GMP, ISO, etc.
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and any database software.
The expected salary range for this position based on California is 60,300 - 111,900. The actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
