The Medicinal Chemistry team, located in Basel, design and invent small molecules aimed to become differentiated medicines for treating diseases of high unmet medical need. As a Lab Head in Medicinal Chemistry you will be accountable for driving your own medicinal chemistry strategies in a project team to deliver high quality candidates to our pipeline. In this role you will:
·  Conduct laboratory research and lead a small team (1 – 2 lab associates and/or external CRO chemistry) demonstrating excellence in synthetic chemistry allowing rapid and efficient structure activity and structure property relationships knowledge generation via multi-dimensional optimization.
·  Be part of a team involved in lead generation and/or lead optimization projects iteratively designing novel molecules for innovative biological targets.
·  As part of the project teams report to a Project leader in medicinal chemistry and to a section head in medicinal chemistry
·  Be responsible for leadership, motivating, developing and retaining talents and appropriately rewarding outstanding performance in your teams
·  Show potential for further career development and have an interest in managing scientists later in your career

You have a PhD in Chemistry and may have prolonged your education with complementary post-doctoral research studies with a preference for gaining experience in structure based drug design and physical chemistry. In addition you:
·  Have a professional experience (>3 years) in the pharmaceutical industry.
·  Have a strong scientific record demonstrating excellence in chemistry through impactful scientific publications
·  Are goal-oriented and you relish working in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment with a core ability to work in teams with the potential to lead teams at a later stage.
·  Have passion and are proactive about your further education in the areas of pharmacology and all related scientific disciplines in drug discovery.
·  Have excellent organizational skills, are a proactive knowledge sharer and are fluent in English
