The Position

The Scientific Information Solutions team works in the area of data and information science and provides insights to support decision-making for in-vitro diagnostic tests throughout the lifecycle of a product.

Together we want to explore potential applications in the topic of regulatory documentation in in-vitro diagnostics. As an intern, you will provide support on an innovative project applying advanced analytics and natural language processing / text-mining approaches to publicly available data. In this project, we want to develop a dictionary and subsequently build an algorithm to mine information stemming from regulatory documents, hence unstructured text resources. Machine learning techniques, will be applied to train an algorithm that can detect and cluster new documents and extract relevant information.

Furthermore, we want to automate the above processes and create a dashboard (Rshiny, Tableau) for our stakeholders to gain insights and drive decision-making.

Your main tasks would include:

·  Collaborate with the host team and other stakeholders to evaluate potential machine learning techniques and applications
·  Design, build and interpret natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to address selected research questions (including preparing the input and output data)
·  Proactively participate in the wider Roche Advanced Analytics community
·  Help shape the direction of machine learning and artificial intelligence within Roche

Ideally you fulfill the following criteria:

·  You are currently enrolled or have recently graduated (within the last 12 months) with a MSc/PhD degree
·  You are a creative problem solver, quick learner and comfortable in experimenting with new approaches. You have strong communication and collaboration skills
·  You demonstrate high productivity and enjoy dealing with ambiguity and applying novel methodologies
·  Possess entrepreneurship, passion and curiosity for understanding and assessing complex data.
·  Knowledge of a wide range of natural language processing, machine learning techniques and applications. Experience in applying of natural language processing and machine learning algorithms and techniques, preferably to unstructured text data
·  Experience with technologies required to undertake analyses on large data sources or with computationally intensive steps (SQL, parallelization, Hadoop, Spark, HPC cluster computing, Docker). Fluency in one or both programming languages: R and/or Python
·  Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken), German is a plus
