Job description

  Job facts

Within this intern role, you will be supporting the Clinical Imaging Group (CIG) within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) Early Clinical Development (ECD). CIG provides imaging expertise and oversight to early development clinical trial programs that support the overall development strategies of the gRED portfolio.

Machine/deep learning (DL) and radiomics image-derived metrics are tools that, if adequately validated, may be used for patient selection, stratification and early response assessment in future oncology clinical trials. The objectives of this project are to apply DL and radiomics to improve 3D lesion segmentation, identify 'features' at baseline or changes over time that are predictive of clinical outcomes such as progression-free survival and overall survival, and to explore DL or other approaches to whole-body lesion detection, in order to automatically locate known/labeled metastases throughout the body. CT and FDG-PET image datasets from trials in non small cell lung cancer patients and MRI datasets from neoadjuvant trials in early breast cancer patients may be used for training, testing, and validation of DL models, and may be augmented with other available image datasets external to gRED.

You may be required to do the following tasks:

·  Create and curate databases of CT, FDG-PET, and/or MRI measurements along with clinical and imaging parameters
·  Develop software (e.g., using R) for the extraction of information from clinical databases, or for the manipulation of imaging files (e.g., DICOM format)
·  Work with convolutional neural network toolboxes, utilize pre-trained models, and create new training models
·  Perform exploratory data analysis
·  Develop software to perform statistical modeling approaches for response assessment
·  Draft technical documents detailing processing steps
·  Collaborate and gain experience interacting with internal experts in clinical development and imaging
·  Develop a poster or presentation of your results and present at internal imaging groups and broader gRED forums
