Looking for interdisciplinary scientist with experience in computing and biology to perform scientific data analyses in partnership with Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) from the Roche Canada office in Mississauga, Ontario.
Required Skills
· 3-6 years of experience required with minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Bioinformatics, or related sciences; advanced degree in Biological field with significant computational training also acceptable; PhD and post-doctoral experience preferred.
· Unix/Linux proficiency and R programming including experience with Bioconductor libraries.
· Documented experience with sequencing/genomic data analysis (NGS) and related bioinformatics tools and libraries (eg. RNAseq analysis, WGS, single cell analyses).
· Good understanding of biological concepts and experimental methods commonly used in molecular biology and interest to learn more.
· Excellent communication, advanced English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
· Responsible and reliable; goal and task oriented. Able to work independently to answer scientific questions using public and private data sets.
Preferred Skills and Experience
· Strong background, experience, or degree in biomedical field is preferred (eg. Oncology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Microbiology, Genetics, etc.).
· History of scientific authorship. (First, middle, and senior author articles all beneficial.)
· Experience with version control and issue tracking systems (eg. git, JIRA).
· Experience with SQL and no-SQL databases.
· Experience working with High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
· Machine Learning and Data Mining skills are a benefit.
· Please briefly highlight publications/experience with computational analysis of Single Cell (eg. scRNAseq), ATACseq, ChipSeq, GWAS, WES, Gene Set or Pathway Analyses, and related datasets.
· Please briefly highlight publications/experience with epigenetic, proteomic, lipidomic, functional genomic, iPSC, structural biology, or microbiome analyses.
List of Duties
· Engage with partner scientists at Genentech, understand their biological questions, and use public and internal databases to provide reliable scientific answers.
· Running existing pipelines to process and analyze sequencing data.
· Reporting, documenting and visualizing data analysis results using open source and internally developed tools.
· Occasional development of custom R/Shiny applications.
